(Y/n) hummed a soft tune as she threw some clothes into her bag in preparation for the upcoming two days that she would be spending in Rush Valley. The young girl had been surprised when she found out that Maes actually talked Roy into letting her go away. Either he had an advantage as his closest friend or he just had the ability to be charmingly persuasive. In the end, (Y/n) still had to directly swear to Roy that she would stick by Havoc, who was less fazed than he should have been when he was presented the task, and abide by the punishment that he had yet to explain to her. Roy had been more than hesitant about letting her go with Edward yet again, but the more reasoning he heard from the General and the First Lieutenant who were in favor of this small trip, he had no choice but to understand where they were coming from. He was more comforted by the fact that his Second Lieutenant would be looking out for (Y/n) while he was away, this on top of the fact that (Y/n) was visiting a place that was run by people over the age of fifteen.

A soft rap on the frame of (Y/n)'s bedroom door diverted her attention from her clothes, looking to a much more composed Flame Alchemist leaning against her door. After the plans had been arranged and everyone had time to cool down, he, the Elrics, his kid, and Riza headed back to Eastern and dispersed to their homes for the next few hours after having been given permission to do so. The trek to Rush Valley would occur sooner than later due to Ed's arm in dire need of repairs, so the train ride was in the next couple of hours. It gave Roy just enough time to hold a normal conversation with his daughter before she left, one with much less cornucopian emotion from both sides.

"You have everything you need?" he asked, folding his arms across his chest as he watched (Y/n) fold her last shirt and place it into her bag. She whirled around to sit on the edge of the bed and face him.

"Almost, I just need to grab my extra pair of gloves and toothbrush," she nodded. Her expression was calm as she looked at him, likely because he was just as calm as he looked around her room. "Did you want to talk to me about something?"

"Not necessarily," he answered with uncertainty.

She tilted her head. "Are you sure?"

Sighing, Roy leaned his head against the door frame and closed his eyes. "I've been thinking about what you asked me earlier about Scar."

"Oh."

"I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry for avoiding it. I was still furious about what he did, and I didn't have it in me to talk about him anymore."

(Y/n) faltered slightly, raising her hand with a slightly concerned scrunch in her brows. "You don't need to apologize for that-"

"No, that's not the only reason why. I've been avoiding telling you about Ishval for a long time now because I was afraid of what you'd think or say. I'm not exactly proud of what happened then, and on top of that you had to go so long without me there for you because of it."

She lowered her hand, quite taken aback by the sudden confession. "I had no idea you felt like that."

"Like I said, I've avoided telling you for so long. I just thought you should know that when you get back, I'll tell you everything if you'd like. No bullshit, just the truth. I'll answer your question from earlier and then some."

"Sure, Roy. If you really want to."

He ran his gloveless fingers through his dark hair, releasing his tense shoulders. "It's more so that I need to, especially now that Scar is becoming more active."

Roy looked to (Y/n) when she didn't respond, her face showing that she had nothing more to say or question about his motives. "Is there anything else you wanted to tell me?"
