(Y/n/n) = Your nickname
I decided not to join my friends on their missions the previous night. Something about that dream with Claire was really getting to me. I woke up to a text from Jim.
J- Can you get here a little early?
I chuckled as I read this.
Me- Lol. Any specific reason?
J- Just get here. It's hard to explain.
Something about Jim's text seemed off. I got ready as quickly as I could as rushed to his house.
"You good?" I asked as soon as his door opened. He didn't waste any time pulling me into the house immediately and shutting the door behind me. "Dude, what's going on?"
"Just follow me," he said sternly, pulling me by my wrist down the stairs. My eyes scanned the basement, taking in an assortment of paintings. They were all of different trolls; friends of ours.
"Did you paint these? They're beautiful," I began, gently running my fingers down the side of a canvas.
"That's the thing. I didn't."
"What? Who did?"
"My mom."
"Wait.. she remembers?!" I shook the boy's shoulders. "This is crazy! Why didn't you say anything?" I glanced at the time, not letting him answer. "Oh shoot, I've gotta get down to Trollmarket with Aaarrrgghh. Like, now.."Gunmar was fighting in the Forge when Usurna and Dictatious entered. I hung back, out of the woman's line of sight. Dictatious wasn't a problem.
"Report," I heard Gunmar's gruff voice.
"Our scouts never returned," Usurna answered. There were fighting noises, and a body was smashed. "Instead of seeking the hole the traitors cower in, we should storm the surface and seize the humans' weaponry. Use it against them. They have explosives that level cities, ripe for the taking!"
"And then what?!" Gunmar shouted, "we're only as strong as the night lasts. Every dawn will decimate our forces, giving the humans the advantage. But that will change when we bring forth the Eternal Night." There was a pause. "Dictatious, has she spoken to you?"
Who's 'she?'
"Of course!" The four-armed troll replied a little too happily, "just last night, the Pale Lady gave me a vision of the human Trollhunter dead at your feet."
Yeah, like that's not off-putting at all..
"And?" Gunmar questioned.
"And.. your allies mourned him from inside your stomach.. Because you ate them!" Dictatious cackled. I peeked into the Forge.
"This. Tells. Me. Nothing!" I could tell the Skullcrusher was trying to maintain his anger. He finally snapped, grabbing Blinky's brother by the throat. "The Eldritch Queen swore I would usher in the Eternal Night, but she never told me how!" He quieted his voice. "I found my strength.. I regained my army. She. Speaks. Through. You. So, tell me." Usurna cleared her throat.
"Gunmar. Perhaps she will tell you when the time is right," the woman cut in. The Gumm-Gumm King tightened his grip on the smaller troll's throat for a moment before releasing him.
"Leave." Unfortunately, I had to run. School started in about a half hour.(Time Change)
I was holding Jim's hand while walking through the hallways.
"What did you find out?" The boy asked. I didn't get a chance to answer. Claire and Mary Wang came through and grabbed my arm.
"Look at the hot sauce that showed up on our front door, (Y/n/n)!" Mary
"What?" I asked, laughing. I shot a confused look at Jim before following Mary.
"He's from Arcadia Oaks Academy!" The girl squealed. She gave me a hard shove, and I nearly fell on the new kid.
"Sorry!" I immediately apologized. The boy looked at me, his brown eyes piercing mine. They seemed to darken for a moment. The boy had bright blue tips that stood out over everything else. He was also much taller than me.
"(Y/n/n)? Seriously?" He scoffed, giving me a playful shove on the arm.
What the heck? Who is this kid?
"It's clever. Consider me blown away, because you are nuclear." He chuckled at his own joke but shut up when he saw I wasn't laughing. "Really? You always used to like that joke.. is (Y/n) in there?" He gently knocked on my forehead, giving an encouraging smile. I felt my face grow red.
What is he doing to me? Stop blushing, (Y/n)!
Suddenly, Jim threw his arm around my shoulder.
Thank the heavens..
"So," he cut in, "what brings you to our humble school?" The trollhunter pushed the new boy back away from me, giving off a threatening vibe. "And what'll it take to send you back?"
"Play nice, Jim," I said slyly. The new kid handed me a poster.
"Well, the Battle of the Bands is coming up. Ash Dispersal Pattern, that's my band," he pointed to the parchment. "We will be crushing it. But, we're encouraging others to give it a shot." I suddenly remembered a story Claire told me when she went to the Papa Skull concert and Jim found out NotEnrique was a changeling.
"Oh.. Hey, didn't you open up for Papa Skull at the Boxtop? Claire says you're sick!" I exclaimed, looking down at the poster. The three of us looked over to see Claire sneeze while talking to Mary.
"It.. uh.. seems like I'm not the only one," he turned his attention back on me. I laughed. Jim fake laughed beside me, and I stomped on his foot.
"You're quite the comedian, Mr.."
"Douxie," he answered. Although it sounded more like a question.
"Well then, Douxie, I think you have yourself a competition," I smirked, almost forgetting Jim existed until he spoke up.
"I don't know, I don't know.. You know.. Really?" He took the poster and shoved it at the new kid. "I don't know! I mean, it's the end of the school year, and we're already pretty booked up with all those after school activities." I snatched the poster back.
"Actually, I have plenty of time!" I announced, "and besides, a friend of ours will be helping manage our schedule soon enough." I mocked his tone. Jim tightly gripped my waist and Douxie cocked an eyebrow before looking into my eyes and smirking.
"I look forward to seeing you again," he said in a seductive voice, "Lady (Y/n) the Beauty.." With that, he walked away.
"What was that?" Jim asked angrily once the new boy was out of earshot.
"Oh, don't you make this about me, mister, you're the one being all jealous," I scolded, pointing at him.(Time Change)
I decided to go to Trollmarket that night. I needed to know who the Pale Lady was. I found Dictatious running out of Blinky's library, crashing into the doorway before he exited.
"Yo, dude! Calm down! What are you doing?!" I shouted, stooping him.
"We must find Usurna! It was her!" The troll whimpered. I rolled my eyes and took his arm.
"Do you know where she is?" I grumbled.
"Not at this moment.. But we must find her now! It is most urgent!"
