•I see how your attention builds
Its like looking in a mirror•I wake up the next day and nothing changes. I still see blue and I still wake up screaming.
Tuesday.
Today is the day I get introduced to my intern. I've to admit, I've gotten over my initial shock of being obligated to mentor someone. Now that I've learned its a man, I'm curious to see what he looks like.
It takes me a moment to remember last night's details. When I do, I groan and cover my eyes in shame. I decide not to let it get a hold over me as I shake the slight feeling of nausea.
Probably from one too many coladas, dont you think, darling? My inner goddess sighs.
Fuck off.
With that in mind, I shower and get dressed then drag myself downstairs. I meet Hiko in the kitchen making french toast and eggs. I didn't really see the point of making french toast then eating it with eggs. I grab two slices of toast and headed out the door while shouting a quick bye behind my back.
What a lovely friendship.
I arrive at the building a bit early and head up to my office. Despite my job position, I still have a ton of work to do, so either the manager is lazy or it's just that time of the year. Giving her the benefit of doubt, I'm assuming it's the latter.
My office walls are made of glass and turn frosted with a touch of a button for privacy. I still don't understand the science behind that, but its a very essential feature. It's clear now, and I can see as people stroll into different workstations to begin their routine.
About an hour later, I receive a call from the manager (a.k.a. my boss) telling me to come see him now and that it's urgent. As I head to his office, I notice that the conference room is occupied and its windows are frosted. I assume the CEO is having a meeting with the board and walk past. I knock twice before entering.
"Hi Matt. You wanted to see me?"
"Yes, River. Your intern is waiting in the conference room. Please try not to fuck this up."
Oh, so I'm the one he wants to see. Makes sense.
"Don't worry, I have your marriage as a guide on what I definitely should not do." I smile at him sweetly.
"Haha very funny. You are very lucky we are tied by blood else that would have gotten you fired." He says with a smirk.
Matt and I are both orphans. We kind of have that bond. He's the one that referred me to this job and urged me to apply for it.
"Thanks," I say and head out of his office the same way I came making a left, coming face-to-face with the conference room door.
I knock twice then enter the room. It is a large space, with a long table and about 16 office chairs. Modern chandeliers hang from the ceiling and there are a few armchairs at the end of the room. It looks professionally decorated and it was clear the design artist was given no definite budget.
At the end of the table away from the door, two men sit patiently, awaiting the arrival of their expected guest. One is a middle aged man who was sitting upright. He has auburn hair that is graying and blends in. His eyes are a shocking aquamarine that looked like they could pierce the truth out of you.
He is wearing a fitted Italian suit that did him justice. I recognized him as the man I met in the lobby. Or, you know, embarrassed myself in front of.
Beside him is a young man, early twenties, who-
Wait.
No.
