Emily POV:
Silence.
That's all that could be heard around the huge oak table that sits in the middle of the council room. I glance at all the wolves that my husband found worthy of sitting at his table. Everyone looks tired.Damon made sure every single one of the warriors and council members had been drug from their warm beds. And none looked happy about that.
"Honestly, Alpha, this could not wait until morning? Meeting tonight will not change anything that was not changed at the last meeting." One council member spoke out to break the silence. I think his name is Gerald Montgomery. He is one of the oldest members that are still alive. He reminded me of the Crypt Keeper.
I giggle softly to myself at my own joke, which causes a glance from Damon.
Shit
I clear my throat and school my features.
"Elder Gerald, I can see where your line of thinking is going and I am going to stop you. You may be right that we have not learned any new information yet about this masked enemy, but we need to come up with something. There was another attack this evening on the northern side of the kingdom. Which, if it has escaped your minds gentlemen, is where the main town is. Our major exports and imports channel through that city. If it is attacked once it can happen again. We also lost three more members." Damon's voice turns somber.
I reach up to run my hand across his back for comfort. He relaxed into my touch but bristles once more when the old man speaks.
"There will not be an effective enough of an attack that will cause any business to be lost. And what if we lost a few nameless guards? They knew what our life entailed. They knew that the service to the kingdom meant risking their lives." His cold grey eyes turn on me next. "And why is your wife in on this meeting Damon? Women have no place when it comes to politics or war."
I interject before Damon has a chance to speak.
"Those men weren't nameless people. They were some of our highest warriors and friends. I may be a woman, but I am also your Queen. The direct daughter of the moon goddess herself and you will show me some respect."
He scoffs at me. "It's hearsay on your lineage. There is no concrete proof you are who you say or that the goddess came to you."
Damon slams his fits onto the table causing it to shake. "ENOUGH!!! Montgomery you will not speak out against my wife again. We have been over this many times, and she is indeed the daughter of the moon goddess. But the question of my mate's bloodline is not what is up for debate!! We have a Vampire on the loose and no one can seem to track him! We have seen this before with Demetri. We have to know who he is and how he is hiding from us."
Another council member raises his small bony arm to speak. Damon sighs softly looking toward the older man. "Yes, Nigel? Please speak."
Nigel stands so everyone can see and hear him. "We mainly need to find out what he wants. These attacks can be for nothing if he chooses to hide."
I swallow hard and it hits me that Damon hasn't told anyone about the notes.
"We know what he wants, Nigel." Damon pinches the bridge of his nose before looking out across the table. "He's after our daughter, Crystal."

There had been more silence as the words he spoke sunk in. Then chaos erupted. Some were questioning why we hadn't already turned over our daughter while others speaking out for her safety. It was a complete mess.I just sat there and watched it all unfold. That was until the little sleazeball Montgomery opened his mouth.
"You! If it was not for you and that pathetic brat of yours, this kingdom would be at peace. If you would have just become the mate to Demetri all those years ago, you would have saved not only your pack of mutts but the werewolves as a whole and we would not be facing total destruction!"
Damon is quick to shift into his wolf form with his beta and warriors at his side. But the room isn't quiet because of the Alpha King going all testosterone on them.
No.
It is because of me.
I am currently standing in the middle of the oak table with Geralds bloody throat grasped in my hand as his feet dangle a few inches off the table.
"You will not EVER speak of my daughter in that manner again! I did what I had to do to save everyone. And I will be damned if I allow a no good inchworm such as yourself to speak otherwise." I bring his face closer to mine. His eyes were frightful as he struggled to take in a few breaths. "Question me or my family again, and you won't have to worry about a few claw marks. It will be your body missing a head."
I squeeze his throat once more before I drop him to the table gasping for air.
I look up across the room making sure to meet each and every one of the council members' gaze. "Make it known, any wolf here dare question me, my husband or my daughter will find their heads on a spike by the front gate! I will not tolerate disloyalty to my husband or the kingdom! And disrespecting me is considered disloyalty." I turn my eyes to Montgomery once more before returning to the other men. "And that, gentlemen, is considered treason. Am I clear?"
Every head in the room nods then tilts to the side to show submission. All but my husbands. And the look on his face could have knocked me to my knees. Pure pride. Mixed with a little lust.
*Nice job little one. Did I mention you look sexy as hell up there?*
I roll my eyes then walk to the edge and allow him to help me down. He keeps his hands around my waist as he leans his head down and kisses me deeply.
When he pulls his head back he whispers my name softly and that did more to me than the kiss we shared. Pules of desire hum through my body but I try hard to keep it tampered down.
I go to say something but a wave of dizziness slams into me making me lean harder on Damon. He holds me around the waist keeping me upright. To the other members of the council, it looks like he's hugging me to his chest.
"You okay baby?" Damons voice is low enough so only I can hear him.
"I feel funny. I think I need to lay back down." My voice sounds foreign to my own ears. I feel Damon's arm move behind me then a shadow appears beside us.
Drake.
Damon leans close to him to keep the conversation private. "Get her to our room now. Then call for her doctor. Not a word of this gets out. I will be up soon."
Drake nods his head then helps Damon shift me to where I was leaning on Drake's shoulder as if I was just tired. I hadn't noticed that the warriors had shielded us from the rest of the members. Once outside the chamber doors, Drake hauls me up and carries me quickly down the halls and up I don't know how many stairs before we reach the door to my and Damon's room.
"Take it easy Luna. I've got you." He sets me down next to the bed once he got us in the room. I wave him off as he tries to help me to bed.
"I am fine Drake. I can do it myself. I don't need a babysitter." I whine.
He just rolls his eyes and pulls the covers back over me before reaching to fix my pillow. "I know you can do it yourself, but Damon will have my hide as his new rug if I let anything happen to you."
I offer a weak smile. He is telling the truth there. Damon is a little overbearing.
"Why are you so good to me now? You use to hate me." I shift in the bed and feel another round of dizziness hit me.
Drake stills then resume his task of fixing the covers. "I didn't hate you. I was mad at you. I felt like you were taking advantage of the whole mating thing. Damon saw you and his world changed. He saw you and he saw his future. From that moment, you became his everything. You saw him, and you got scared. Of what I don't know. But, I didn't hate you, I wanted to blame you for my brother disappearing."
I groan softly at the memories. and before I could respond drowsiness won me over and I sunk into the sweet abyss.
