Derek: Tonight's the night.
Alexis: Don't remind me.
Derek: Aw, don't be so angry, babe.
Alexis: Call me babe again and I'll force-feed you your own nuts.
Derek: Better leave the attitude at home tonight. This needs to be believable, BABE.
Alexis: I don't know why this has to be done in front of everyone. Why can't I break it to him in private?
Derek: Because I want everyone to know what happened without any doubts.
Alexis: You're wrong for doing this after what happened to Caleb.
Derek: Not my problem.
Alexis: He DIED, asshole!
Derek: That has nothing to do with me or our deal. Get your shit together, Lex, or else I'm sending out copies of that video.
Derek: And before you think about backing out, just imagine your biker boyfriend behind bars.
Derek: Remember, a deal's a deal, babe.
Alexis: I'll be there.
A frustrated growl rips from my throat as I toss my phone in the passenger seat of my car.
This is un-fucking-believable! What kind of heartless bastard blackmails someone, especially after that someone just lost a friend in a drive-by?
Derek Miller. That's who. The waste of space that is my ex-friends-with-benefits, and honestly, we were barely that. We hung out, went to parties together, watched movies at my place, but besides making out, we only slept together a couple of times in the year we were...whatever the fuck we were.
And now I have to date him. It'll be fake but no one else will know that.
Jace won't know it.
I growl again, sounding like a wounded animal as I yank my hands through my hair. My anger doesn't last long. The growl quickly morphs into a broken sob that has me gasping for air.
Derek's right about one thing, I need to get my shit together. If I can't make everyone believe I actually want to be with Derek, he'll send out that video. The one where Jace, Kade, Wilder, and Travis throw some guy into their old school's sports closet and set it on fire. There was some yelling before they lit the match and to their defense, they did yank the guy out before he was seriously harmed, but the end result is the real issue. That fire they set burned down West County High, and even if that wasn't their intention, they'll still have to pay the price for their actions if Derek releases the video.
But he won't. Not as long as I stick to our deal and fake date him.
Drawing in a deep breath, I rest my head on my steering wheel and sigh.
