Chapter 1 "Was I having a nightmare?"

-Next Day-

Hailey and Zander were on their way to Jake's house to hangout with the club. Hailey was fixing her scarf and Zander was zoning out into his own thoughts. There is no way that happened yesterday. I must have just had a nightmare last night. Hailey started to notice Zander was acting a bit off.

"Hey Zander? Are you alright? You've been pretty quiet."

"Huh? Oh uh don't worry about me. I'm fine."

Hailey really wasn't buying it. Then Hailey's face quickly changed to her having a small smirk on her face.

"Oh I get it. Are you thinking about your new boyfriend?" Hailey teased.

A bit of blush came across Zander's cheeks. Technically she isn't wrong.. Zander's face went back into his usual expression. Hailey noticed his eyes were sort of duller than usual.

In an attempt to distract Zander from his thoughts Hailey said, "So speaking of Luke, I'm happy he finally confessed. I can't believe he mustered up the courage to tell you."

"Wait what do you mean? Did you know?" Zander said puzzled.

"Oh of course I did. It was pretty obvious. He actually wanted to tell you in middle school but he chickened out I guess. It was honestly kind of painful for me to see you two obviously be in love with each other. You both were so oblivious." Hailey laughed.

"He's been in love with me since middle school?!" Zander exclaimed.

The thought made his face heat up. Hailey started bursting out laughing at the sight of the poor boy's flustered face. Zander bent down to grab something. Hailey stopped laughing as she felt a cold snowball hit the back of her head. Hailey looked back at Zander.

"Oh you are so dead!" Hailey yelled.

Zander stuck his tongue out and started running away. Soon it was a full-blown snowball fight. Hailey was chasing Zander ready with a snowball in hand. She chucked the snowball just a few feet in front of Zander causing some snow to splash on Zander's shoes.

Zander wasn't exactly paying attention to where he was running. He ended up bumping into Luke, who was walking up ahead. Zander ended up falling into a nearby snowbank.

"Ah.. My head." He'd gotten a cut on his right cheek.

"Oh Zander! I'm so sorry here." Luke exclaimed, while pulling out a piece of cloth. He then dabbed the side of Zander's face.

"Are you alright?" Luke asked, extending out his hand to help Zander up from his fall.

"Oh I'm okay." He gave Luke a faint smile. Then Zander hesitated, remembering that "dream" he had last night. He shook it off and grabbed Luke's hand.

"Thanks." Zander said. Luke gave back his signature smile.

"So Luke, have you heard anything from Sean and Milly?" Hailey asked.

"Oh yeah. Milly said that her and Sean are already there. They're just waiting for us I guess." Luke replied.

Suddenly Zander got a notification on his phone. It was from Jake. God why did I save that idiot's contact info. Zander opened the message. To his surprise it was a picture of Zander and Luke when they were little on Christmas. Zander was stuffing his face with cookies and Luke was playing with his new train set. He showed Luke the photo.

"Aw how adorable. I remember you ate so many peanut butter blossom cookies you got sick on Christmas Day." Luke said. Hailey and Luke both giggled.

"Hey! It's not my fault that peanut butter is delicious!" Zander yelled.

Soon enough they arrived at Jake's place. Milly excitedly greeted the three of them.

"Yes! You guys are finally here. We have plenty of snacks. Even your favorite Zander." Milly pointed to a big tray of peanut butter blossom cookies.

Zander felt himself relax just a bit. Maybe this party could be kinda fun.

"Sean's getting some drinks right now too. We also have a few games to play. I already beat Jake's ass at Mario Kart." Milly said proudly. Jake rolled his eyes.

"Wait, wait, wait, Sean's getting drinks? As in alcohol? We're all under-age." Luke said.

"Yep. It was kind of funny to be honest. Sean was the one to insist we had some to "get this party started" as he put it." Milly replied.

That's odd. Usually Sean's the responsible one of the group. Hailey thought.

"Hey I'm back." Sean said, while carrying bottles of drinks. You could tell he was struggling to hold them all.

"Here let me help you. You look like you're about to collapse." Jake said, giving a small laugh.

"Wow already showing off huh Jake?" Hailey said jokingly. She rolled her eyes.

"You don't have to watch princess." Jake replied. He had a small smile on his face.

Jake passed around the bottles. The only one who didn't have one was Luke. Surprisingly everybody was pretty sober. Well, except for Zander. He wasn't handling the alcohol very well.

"Hey Lukeyyy." Zander whispered.

"Holy shit he is so hammered. I didn't expect him to be the one to get drunk." Milly laughed.

"Alright I think it's time for you to go home." Luke said. He helped Zander stand up. "Hailey do you mind if I bring him to my place for the night?"

"No problem. I'll let our parents know. Do you need a ride? I can call an uber." Hailey offered.

"I'll manage." Luke carried Zander in his arms and headed to the front door.

"Bye guys. I'll see ya later." The club waved back to him. Just as he walked outside Zander fluttered his eyes open.

"Luke..?"

"Oh! Zander, I'm just bringing you to my place so you can rest. Maybe take it easy on the alcohol next time." Luke sighed.

"I guess so.." Zander replied as he slowly closed his eyes.

I'm lucky that Zander is asleep. Or else I would have to explain everything to him. And that's the last thing I would ever want. Luke thought as he walked into his bedroom. He placed Zander on his bed then walked over to his desk. He turned on the lamp and pulled out a sheet of paper. He clicked his pen and began to write;

Dear Zander,

You probably won't see me by the time you wake up. I'm just running a few errands. There's plenty of food so you can make yourself breakfast and lunch. I'll be back around 1:00 PM. You can invite the others over if you'd like. If you choose to leave before I come back just shoot me a text. There's some Tylenol in the bathroom if you still have a headache. Feel better.

He folded the letter and placed it on the nightstand to the right of the bed. He quietly picked his weaponry and slipped on a dark brown hoodie and some black jeans. He pulled out his phone to check the time. 12:38 AM. Perfect. He walked through the hallways, grabbed a mask off of the kitchen table, and put on some gloves.

And there he was.

On his way.

To kill his next victim.
