I woke up early the next morning. I still want to sleep but I'm so excited about the thought of having a job again that my sleepiness just went away. I yawned and stretched my arms out when I felt a slight pain in my face. The memory of yesterday's events suddenly came crashing into my mind.
I was on my way to the café where I would meet Mew Suppasit, my ex-boss, to talk about being Xander's nanny when I noticed a woman being mobbed by two men wearing masks and bonnets. I don't have the heart to just ignore her so I came to help her even though I know I've got limited skills in fighting. Surprisingly, I was able to get back the girl's handbag and even managed to throw the two men on the ground without sustaining any bruises.
Without wasting any more time, I quickly got my phone in my pocket and was about to contact the police when I noticed that I have a lot of missed calls from an unknown number. I unconsciously pressed the call button and was surprised to know that the caller was my ex-boss. I got distracted by the call so I didn't notice that the two men got up once again and tried to attack me. I was caught off-guard that they managed to score a few punches on my face. Thankfully, the police arrived on time before I got beaten up and we were ushered to the police station to give our statements and file a complaint.
When we reached the police station, I was surprised to see Xander and his grandmother in the waiting area though they still didn't notice our presence. The girl I helped rushed to Mrs. Jongcheveevat and cried on her shoulders. Too overwhelmed maybe with what happened to her earlier.
I was quite shocked that they know each other but I don't want to interrupt their moment so I just stayed on the side. I got startled when someone suddenly hugged my legs. When I look down, I saw Xander beaming at me.
"Thank you fow saving my Tammy, Uncle Kana. You'we leallyouw hero because you saved me and my Tammy. My Uncle Kana is the best."
I don't know what came over me but I almost cried with that statement. I grew up doing almost anything that could please my father and make him proud of me but everything I did still isn't enough. At some point, I eventually got tired and resorted to rebelling because I felt that no matter what good thing I do, still, no one will acknowledge it.
The pride in Xander's voice when he said that didn't go unnoticed and it really got into me. I never knew the appreciation I got from a small child would really lift up my spirits, boost my confidence, and gave me more reasons to believe in myself.
Xander introduced me to Becca, the girl I helped earlier and also his Tammy or Tita Mommy, and to his grammy which is Mrs. Vivienne Jongcheveevat. They wanted to take me to the nearest hospital but I refused because I still have to meet with my ex-boss. They thanked me countless times for saving Becca and I also thanked her for calling the police on time. I, then, bid my goodbye to Xander and his family before I quickly made my way to my previous company ready to face the wrath of my ex-boss for being late.
