Close Call

 My eyes flutter open and immediately squint at how goddamn bright it is. God my head hurts. I roll over and suddenly notice this bed is softer than mine. I bolt up realizing that I don't recognize this room. Oh god where am I? What am I wearing? I'm just in my bra and underwear with a large T- Shirt over them. Normally shirts are small on me but this one is big and long enough to even cover my ass.

Wait focus, I need to figure out where I am. Where's my phone? Oh my god Doll must be freaking out. Do I leave the room? Do I stay here? Flashes of last night come back to me as I realize what must have happened. Please no, please don't be true. I get up from the bed and head towards the bedroom door.

Pushing it open sure enough I see Kai brewing a pot of coffee. I gasp and pull the shirt down before realizing it must be his. I can feel my cheeks grow red.

"Morning sunshine, how'd you sleep?" He asks me nonchalantly. Holy shit. Please don't tell me I'm at his apartment.

"Kai why am I here?" I ask half knowing the answer.

"Well do you remember everything that happened last night?" He questions, oh no I don't like where this is going.

"Um kind of. I remember the club, waiting for my uber, the guy attacking me, and you and Blake. Then um, I think I passed out.

"Well you're on the right track. Yes you passed out. I of course caught you because I didn't want you to hit your head being the gentleman I am. In return you threw up all over yourself and also on me." Oh no please let me get struck down by lighting right now. There's no way that happened!

"Wait why am I here?" I ask, still sort of confused.

"Well your lovely uber showed up and then refused to take you. Said you couldn't enter the vehicle because of the whole covered in vomit thing." He states it as if it's obvious. I pull at his shirt willing it to cover me more, growing embarrassed as I realize what this means. I still ask. "He also wouldn't tell me your address, privacy thing, so I just brought you here." He shrugs as if it's not a big deal.

"My clothes? Where is my dress? Why am I wearing this? Did you change me?" I question him making direct eye contact. He seems to grow flustered and looks down at the pot of coffee. I've never seen him act like that, like he's embarrassed.

"Right about that, I'm really sorry. I debated it for awhile, meaning the whole car ride here. But I really didn't want you to sleep in my bed like that. I promise I didn't really look. I only had to use baby wipes on your chin and neck area. Then I put you in my shirt and laid you down to bed that's all I swear." He raises his hands up innocently. While I'm embarrassed I'm also sort of grateful?

"Where's um, where's my dress?" I ask.

"It's hung up in the laundry room. I washed it and hung it up 'cuz I didn't know if it could go in the dryer." There's no way Kai is this sweet who the fuck is this?

"Kai, one last thing did um. Did anything happen? Were you in the bed with me?" His eyes grow big as he realizes what I'm asking.

"No! Nothing like that no. You were a mess! That would have been taking advantage. I slept on the couch. I swear" The words quickly leave his mouth and I believe him. Wow he thinks I'm a drunk mess, great one El. Super classy, seriously.

"Well then, thanks for all of that. I'm going to get dressed and go. Um, thanks again." He nods and I head over to his laundry room closing the door. I hear a knock and open the door to see him standing there.

"Your dress is still pretty gross, and I'm not sure you wanna wear that right now so you can take this." He holds out a pair of grey sweatpants to me. I thank him and close the door pulling them over my legs.

My clutch and phone are both on the washer machine. I'm not surprised to see that I have a million calls and texts from Doll. God she's going to kill me. Before I can even respond my phone dies, great! I grab my stuff and head to his bathroom. I'm shocked to see the bruise on my cheekbone. I feel tears swell in my eyes as memories from last night come flooding back. I turn away, I don't want to see that. I open the door and walk out seeing Kai standing there.

"Are you doing alright?" He asks. Kind of a dumb question but whatever.

"Yeah I'm good. Uh my phone just died do you have a charger or the uber app. I need to go home." I say and he looks at me before saying.

"I can just take you home. Charge your phone in my car, come on." He doesn't wait for an answer and just walks out his front door. Alright then I guess I don't get a say. I scold myself thinking I should be more grateful. I guess I'm just annoyed at how helpless I was, how much I relied on him. This man I barely know.

The car ride is almost silent and very awkward. The music is playing as background noise but it doesn't ease the tension. My phone charges enough to turn back on so I can actually respond to my poor worried Doll. I apologize a thousand times and give a brief explanation, saying I'll explain everything once I'm home. Kai's voice breaks my train of thought.

"Are you really a lesbian?" His eyes are glued to the road. I'm stunned that he's asking me this so randomly. I suddenly recall me telling my attacker last night that I'm a lesbian as a sort of last ditch attempt to make him lose interest. Kai heard that? I mean I do like girls but I wouldn't say I'm strictly a lesbian.

"No, I do like women though but I don't really use labels." The words leave my mouth and I can't help but wonder what's it to him? He just nods and doesn't say anything more. Finally he pulls into the parking lot of my apartment building.

"Thank you again Kai, for um everything." I scurry out of the car before he really gets a chance to say anything. I practically run into my building and hurry up the elevator before making it to my apartment. I don't even have the key in the hole before Doll swings open the door staring me down.

"Spill everything bitch." She says.
