The palace ran smoothly and the ones to thank were the people working for the royal family. They were all treated like family and that was the thing that kept their loyalty. There were cooks, maids, butlers, etc. You name it and they probably had one of them. They were never looked at as servants. The Callahan saw them as people or better yet human beings. Neighbouring kingdoms thought of this as an unwise idea, but the Callahan’s would not change their view. The two people that ran the day-to-day duties were the head maid, Dianne and the head guard, William. They have the whole castle memorised from top to bottom and made sure that everything ran efficiently. Dianne made sure that not a hair was out of place and organized the duties of the other maids. She knew every nook and cranny in the entire castle. William kept a watch out for any suspicious behaviour and did everything in his power to prevent and stop all conflicts. He was the got to guy to get a man trained and kept the other guards in tip top shape. William had s son named Demetrius and Dianne had a daughter named Chloe. They were both of the same age; 7 years old, but rarely spoke to each other. Those two would later inherit the positions “head guard” and “head maid” in the future.
When Demetrius Smithe first met the two princes he was nervous and extremely shy. Not as bad as Alexander, but still quite bashful. This attitude was quite brief. His personality did a complete 360 so quick that no one even remembers the shy phase. What had happened was the Anthony set moths in his closet destroying some of his favourite shirts. Instead of getting upset or even angry, Demetrius retaliated by putting some weird goop in Anthony’s shower head. He would not tell anyone what exactly that “goop” was, but whatever it was it would not come out for weeks. Hair was VERY important to Anthony, but this small prank was the beginning of their horribly beautiful friendship.
All that shyness faded away and was replaced with the same one Anthony possessed. Demetrius Anthony would honestly be better suited as twins rather than Anthony and Alexander. They could be the same person sometimes. As cheesy as it sounds, they were each other’s other half. It got so bad that sometimes they finished each other’s sentences. If clones were real, they wouldn’t even need one. This relationship they shared could be dangerous. Both boys were extremely competitive and fought over the smallest things. That last slice of pie could never be shared, it had to be won. What would happen if they were fighting over something bigger? Something that could tear them apart. Something that could break their seemingly indestructible bond. This seemed like a non-existent possibility. That one day would make it a very existent possibility.
Chloe Brookins wasn’t shy, but she wasn’t the most outgoing person ever. The only person she actually knew was her mother. She was more of an observer that preferred to be invisible and hidden from the world. Nobody forced her to be more talkative and she was grateful for that. The queen occasionally attempted to start a conversation about just about anything. Her efforts soon became futile when Chloe would reply with simple one word answers. It is not that she couldn’t speak, she just didn’t want to. Chloe could start a full on conversation at the drop of a hat even or perhaps not. She liked being by herself and that was that. She didn’t need people to be happy. Chloe was perfectly content the way that she was. At times she wished that she could talk to someone other than her dolls. They weren’t the best conversationalists and were definitely not very chatty. She knew that one day she would no longer feel invisible and be very much visible. Well she knew that people could see her, but they were just not really looking. Instead of trying to change herself, Chloe just wanted to wait. She was not the kind of person to go out and get what she wanted. Chloe was more of the person to wait it out and let fate decide her destiny.
Chloe may have tried to keep herself out of sight at all times, but she was still a normal person. Normal people develop crushes. Some crushes are small and some a really huge. This one was quite big. A certain guard’s son *cough* Demetrius *cough* caught her eye. How could she not like him? He was charming, amusing, sweet (sometimes), and positively cute. There just so much to like about him, well at least in her mind. Chloe knew that they could never be. She was just too shy and knew that she would be unable to branch away from her almost mute self. Even if he did like her, keyword being if, she knew that she would mess it up or not be good enough. She knew of Demetrius’ prank playing antics, but was surprised when she was not targeted. He either did not want to get on her bad side or he had a soft spot for her. She hoped it would be the latter. Chloe knew that she should at least talk to him. Talking is not that hard, right? All she had to do was say “Hi” or something. Her so simple plan seemed easy enough, but the easiness did not last very long. That day made it all the more difficult and complicated.
