Hey! I'm back! Thanks a ton for not flaking out on me despite the pretty long break I had. I really need it tbh, but I'm excited to be back! There's some pretty big stuff happening in this chapter and some more events in the future to keep this bad boy rolling! I'm getting over excited about the ending(s?) already and I just gotta figure out da middle. So yeah, stay tuned!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So yeah, that happened last night. You pretty much freaked out the second it happened, but now you couldn't stop your thoughts from replaying the moments over and over again. Speaking of yesterday, thanks to Benrey it was your first day on the job at Black Mesa, and you were supposed to get ready to leave in about... now-ish.

You groaned, rubbing your eyes before getting up from your bed to do your daily morning ritual. You were incredibly tired from the intense video gaming last night though, every movement you made felt incredibly sluggish. Apparently that was too much for you at once; you knew Benrey would tease you about it if you brought it up. Calling you a 'baby chicken hat' or something like that. For shame.

Shrugging it off, you slipped on a button-up shirt and a slim pair of black dress pants, complimenting your dark dress shoes. Taking one last glance in the mirror, you popped up the collar of your shirt before smoothing it down along your collarbone, throwing on a smooth blazer as you shuffled to the door. Good impressions, good impressions. First impressions are CRUCIAL to any part of life. Don't fuck this up.

Wasn't Benrey's first impression of you was that you're an insufferable drunk?-

Unimportant! Not important right now! Focus on the job! Business first, feelings later.

You paused before the exit, a wave of uneasiness rolling throughout your body. Everything's gonna be fine, you're just getting a job at a huge successful scientific company. No big deal.

You let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding and relaxed your shoulders. It's just the first day, it shouldn't be so hard. They wouldn't have hired you if they thought you were incapable.

So why did it feel like you were about to walk into a warzone?

Finally steeling your nerves you gripped onto your set of keys, heading out the door and down the flight of stairs. Best not to think too much about it. Walking outside, the sun seemed much brighter today in New Mexico and you had to bring a hand up to your forehead to block the sun from burning your eyes. Did you drink again last night? You couldn't remember deciding to down a couple drinks but you might have.

The thought made you even more uncomfortable with having to ride your motorcycle to work. There was something ominous about your bike. There was nothing wrong with it physically, but something about its dark, void colour gave you the chills. Like there was something evil lurking in the back of your mind that you just couldn't quite put your finger on.

You decided against using it. You'd have a safer bet with the public subway system anyway. Luckily, there was a subway just around the corner with a nice little bench you could wait on. And wait you would, despite it being hot as fuck, even down in the subway. Remind me again why you decided to wear two layers today? To look cool? Something about good impressions? Yeah that sounded right. Though now you were beginning to regret your choice in fashion in the heat of New Mexico.

The train just so happened to show up as you were considering taking your blazer off. Startled, you stood up from the bench, almost tripping over your feet. Taking a whiff of the sweaty atmosphere, you cringe, gathering your wits to stand in a stanky, crowded metal box for at least an hour. To your surprise there was a considerable lack of people on the tram, maybe just one or two people, giving you a nice empty seat along the window.
