Mykie didn't know why she said yes. She felt like she was going to intrude the whole day

She was stupid to say yes. She barely made it through dinner, let alone a whole day. She was going to go through. She wasn't a coward. Well...maybe slightly a coward.

Mykie poured her tea into the teacup. She felt a soft touch on her leg. Looking down she observed her cat, October. "Hello sunshine," she cooed. The animal didn't respond. It's funny, she was just thinking of the Styles family and she's looking at the gift they had gotten her.

Fable wasn't really a gift. They more like pushed the cat onto her. Fable was a rescue. An abandoned kitten. Anne couldn't keep her, Mykie never asked why she couldn't, but she couldn't. Gem simply didn't want her.

The cat strutted away from the girl. Mykie huffed as she finished doctoring her tea. She took a sip as she walked on and into the living room.

She turned the tv on and started to watch whatever was on. The late-night News channel came on. She watched but didn't pay attention.

Mykie looked around the stupidly large house she sat in and sighed. "Why dad why?" she asked.

Her father had bought her A massive home in England, but only for her. She didn't understand why she needed a 4 bedroom and 3 bathroom house. Not to mention the two living rooms and a game room. They were all filled with furniture she didn't want. Though she did appreciate the BMW.

As it grew later she decided to switch the Tele off and go to bed. She did have work in the morning after all.

___________

"So, Mum, what's Mykie's story?" Harry asked his mother as they sat together drinking wine. Anne looked over.

"What do you mean?" She asked. She didn't want to spill things that Mykie didn't want him to know.

Harry sighed. "Why does she work at a small soap shop but drive a very expensive car?" he asked frustrated.

"Why does it upset you so much?" Anne beat around the bush.

"Because it makes no sense!" he exclaimed. Harry had been thinking about it all night. He didn't understand why this mysterious girl captivated him too much.

"She bought it last year," Anne informed him. "I don't know where she got the money," She did.

Harry shook his head and took a sip of his wine. "She's confusing," he spoke plainly.

Anne shook her head. "No, she's not, she's amazing."

____________

Mykie had been working all day. Of course, she had been, she hadn't hired anyone. She finally sat down to eat lunch after the Christmas present rush. She took her first bite of the pastry as the bell rung. She turned around with a grumpy expression.

"I come in peace," Anne giggled. Mykie smiled.

"I've been busy, just getting to eat," she said covering her mouth because it was full.

Anne gave her a pout. "So, I've come to talk to you," Anne looked at her.

Mykie eyebrows furrowed. She hoped that Anne was gonna tell her she couldn't come to Christmas. Yay! It wouldn't be awkward and she would live in peace. That wasn't the case.

"Harry wants to know about you, and where you- what you've come from," Anne said slowly. Mykie's eyes widened. "What? You didn't tell him anything did you?" she asked frantically.

Anne shook her head. "But he's gonna Google you if he doesn't get answers," Mykie shook her head "this wasn't supposed to happen. I was to stay anonymous!" She panicked.

Anne walked over to her. "Listen, Harry won't tell anyone, he just wants to know so that he can- I don't know, become closer to you," And explained.

Mykie shook her head. "This is so embarrassing," she sighed.

"You can trust him, he's a good boy, I did raise him after all," Anne chuckled.

Mykie didn't like the situation at hand. She had worked so hard to keep herself mysterious, but as soon as Harry comes home, her walls crumble.

"Just talk to him-" Anne was cut off by the door ringing. Both women looked to the door to see Harry standing there.

Like in books, Mykie felt her heart plummet. His green eyes pierced through her like swords. Her eyes welled up with tears as she turned.

Anne turned towards Mykie and hugged her. Mykie thought she, herself, was such a coward. It was Anne's own son, and she was scared to tell him anything. She felt bad for Harry, he was clueless to what was going on as Mykie cried into Anne's shoulder.

Mykie didn't understand the wave of emotion that had overcome her. It was just so sudden. Harry walked in and she fell apart.

She let go of Anne and walked into the back room. Anne and Harry watched her.

"Was that my fault?" Harry asked with a frown. Anne shrugged.

"Don't know honey," she looked to him. "Just give her a minute."

_____________

Mykie leaned against the wall, sobbing her heart out. She had realized she hadn't cried in a good while. Maybe that's why she was so overwhelmed. Maybe it was just built up and finally overflowed and the dam broke.

Her sobs turned to sniffles. She didn't want to go out there a face them. She had embarrassed herself to no avail. Her eyes were red, her makeup now ruined. Her cheeks were red and hot. Hair messy. She looked like a mess.

She opened the door and the conversation ceased. "What are you even doing here Harry?" Mykie snapped, as she sniffled.

She shook her head. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean that I just-" she sighed. "Why did you come?"

Harry cleared his throat, "I-I wanted answers about you, it sounds so weird but-" he trailed off. Mykie sniffles, breathing through her nose now that her nose was stopped up.

"I didn't even know my Mum was here, I came by myself," he explained. Anne faded into the background, soon slipping out without the two notices.

"I'm sorry," she apologized.

"For what?"

Mykie let out a stifled sob. "I didn't mean to fall apart like that," she said, keeping it brief.

"It's completely okay," he offered her a sad smile. He came over to her and hugged her. She inhaled sharply. Her cheek pressed against his chest. Her arms lazily wrapped around him, awkwardly.

Mykie pulled away and frowned. She let out a sob and pointed to his shirt. Her eyeliner was smeared on the cream-colored shirt.

Harry shrugged. "Gives it character eh?" he grinned. She scoffed with a smile. "Let me take you home-"

"No!" Mykie almost shouted. She cleared her throat.

He couldn't see where she lived. He just couldn't.

"Okay, what about my house?" he asked.

Mykie paused. "Sure," she whispered.

Harry looked around not finding his mother. She was very sneaky. Harry put a hand on Mykie's shoulder. "Want me to grab your things?" he offered. Mykie shook her head and disappeared into the back.
