Qibli's legs felt like jelly.
"I-"
"I know you like Moon. Moon's perfect and amazing, but I don't think that any dragon deserves you."
Qibli took this in. "Oh...Winter." Winter. His grouchy friend. He had never thought of them any more than friends. I can't break his heart. I just can't. Qibli took a deep breath. "Winter, you know I like Moon, but," He swallowed. "I never saw you as anything more than a friend." Winter nodded sadly, and Qibli wanted to smack himself. Dawn arrived, and Moon and Kinkajou finally found them.
"OMG!" Kinkajou yelped. "I THOUGHT YOU WERE LOST! I THOUGHT YOU WERE HELD PRISONER! I THOUGHT-" She was cut off by Moon touching her wing briefly.
"Is everything alright?" She asked, looking into Qibli's eyes.
"Y-yes. Everything's fine." Qibli said, look at Winter, meeting his gaze, then they both looked away.
"Alright," Moon said, looking at Winter then into the horizon, where the shadow of Queen Scarlet's palace looked over the mountains. "Let's keep going. Today we reach the Sky Palace and free Hailstorm." Winter nodded, and they walked, ran, and then flew to the Palace.
"So, what's the plan?" Hissed Winter.
I'll distract the guards. You guys go find Hailstorm, and bring him out here." Qibli paused then added, "Kinkajou, come with me, just in case they bring me to the Queen. I will need some venom fangs for backup." He caught Winter staring at him longingly as if he wanted to come with him and be his backup. Sorry, Winter. You don't have camouflage scales.
"Let's go." Said Moon, taking Winter gently by the wing and getting him into position. Qibli nodded to them and then flew to the entrance. Kinkajou took her position behind him. Let's hope that this isn't a mistake.
Later that night, Qibli looked over at Winter. Or the spot that had been Winter. He sighed, missing his friend. If only I would have said three simple words. Then he would have been back by now. But I love Moon, don't I? He looked over at her, and then rested his head on his talons. I do, but this feels wrong now. He looked around, quietly got up, then walked under the stars like he and Winter did, savoring all of the memories. Frustrated, he roared at the sky.
"Qibli? Are you alright?" He whipped around, only to see Moonwatcher standing behind him. "Not really." He said, relaxing. She sat beside him.
"What's the matter?"
"Winter."
Moon cocked her head at him. "You miss him?" Qibli nodded.
"I can understand that." Moon lightly rested her tail on his, and said, "What happened on your 'alright' walk?"
"Winter confessed to me." Moon jumped, startled.
"Wow, really?"
"Yeah." Moon looked at him, her gaze soft, and she smiled. "I know you don't want to hurt my feelings, but you really love Winter." Qibli looked at her, startled. "You don't need to pretend. We all know."
"Even Kinkajou?"
"No, everyone except for her." Moon rolled her eyes, and Qibli laughed.
"Alright, Alright."
"So how are you feeling now?"
"Better."
"You should go get him, Qibli."
"What?"
"Winter. Go get him."
"But, the Ice Wall-"
"It's no match for you. You're smart, and you know that Winter needs you."
Qibli looked up, feeling confident. "Your right." He stood up and opened his wings. "I'll go get him."
