Sameera

Yasmeen and I came back home to clean up and also because she couldn't  stop yamming about how hungry she is. I carelessly forgot that she didn't eat before I dragged her out of the house unwillingly.

I went to mum's room to check up on her and how she is fairing. I opened the door quietly and peeped in. She was sleeping peacefully on her soft mattress bed. The dining looked clean and all the dishes have been taken away.

I went to the kitchen to fix up the dishes and take out laundry. Yasmeen was on the phone when I was done with all of my work. She looked at me and then rolled her eyes before cutting the call.

Furrowing my eyebrows I went over to her side of the room. "Why are you rolling your eyes at me and who was that you were on the phone with?" I asked, opening my wardrobe.

"That was Afrah, she called to ask of you and said that she is already waiting for you. Looks like I am not the only one who doesn't keep to a rendezvous." She said, using my words against me.

There was a time that I reprimanded her for not keeping to the rendezvous we both made while I was still at the University and she hasn't stopped bugging me about it for as long as I can remember.

"Subhanalilah!" I exclaimed. "I totally forgot about it. Now I am never going to hear the end of it. And where is my phone?" I asked no one in particular.

Sighting it on the dressing table, I quickly took it and entered the pass code. When you have a sister like Yasmeen, you will have no choice other than to put a pass code on your phone

There was ten missed calls, three messages and two missed video calls. Forgetting about the missed calls, I went to open the messages. The first one reads:

Meera.
I called you so many times. What on earth is wrong with you? Where are you? Did you forget that we had to meet today? Gosh you behave like a kid sometimes.

The second one reads:

Meera are you sure you are okay. Did something happen? Call me as soon as you see this message.

The third one:

Meera, I think I should just head home. I will see you later.

The last one was sent only a minute ago. I hurriedly dialed her number praying she picks up the call.

"Sameera Amal Al Qassim! Where on earth were you and what were you doing. I waited for over thirty minutes for you. Did you forget or something?" My eardrums were almost shattered with her constant shouting.

"I am really sorry, Afrah. I totally forgot about it. Okay, where are you? Wait there, I am on my way." I said, grabbing my black veil.

I was wearing a black open trousers, white shirt, black jacket and white flats. I grabbed my small black purse and went out. Afrah later told me where she was which was just ten minutes away from my house.

When I got there, Afrah was sitting on a blue painted wooden bench that was placed by the side of the road. The side walk. I appulsed her silently hoping she wouldn't be mad at me. But knowing her, she probably would.

I sat beside her making her jump in fright. She narrowed her eyes at me in anger before huffing loudly.

She is really mad at me.

"I am sorry Afrah but I totally forgot. Mum lost her job today so that's what clouded my mind. So sorry." I apologized, scooting closer to her.

She gasped looking at me in shock. "Your mum got fired? I'm sorry. I had no idea and here I was screaming profanities at you." She said, looking sad.
