Mina's day had been horrible.
She had woken up late and scrambled to get ready. Luckily, her hair was easy to take care of. The only time consuming thing was her makeup, which she completed easily. A few more little things later and she was running out of her dorm and heading to the kitchen.
That was where she had found Kaminari eating the last of her favorite cereal. At her sigh of annoyance, he apologized and promised to buy her more. Mina waved him off and ate an apple instead, hurrying back up to her room for a pair of socks.
Feeling the need for some confidence, Mina went in search of her favorite pair of socks. They were pink, with strawberries covering them, and they always made her feel slightly rebellious, since they were effectively hidden by her socks.
Mina unfolded the socks and pulled them on. She stood up, only to feel something cold touch her foot. She sat down and pulled her foot up onto her knee, craning to look at the sole. There was her problem. A hole, big enough to stick a finger through, right on the heel of the sock. With a sigh, Mina pulled them off and found a different pair, grabbing her backpack and shoes before heading downstairs, then out the door and to school.
She sat down and let her head flop onto her desk. She napped all through home room, peacefully sleeping. Peacefully, until Present Mic yelled a cheerful "good morning, class!" and scared her awake. He then proceeded to shout out the agenda for the day, including a quiz that would begin immediately. With a barely muffled groan, Mina accepted her paper and got to work.
When Present Mic came around to collect the papers, Mina scrambled to finish the last couple of questions. She handed Present Mic her quiz, feeling stressed and knowing full well that she had done terribly.
The rest of the day went in a similar fashion. She ripped her hero costume during training, she dropped her food in the lunchroom, and despite not getting hurt in hero training she bruised her shin on a desk leg. By the time she got back to her dorm room, all she wanted to do was collapse and forget everything.
She was halfway through getting into her pajamas when she remembered that she had a date tonight.
Mina sighed and changed back out of her PJ's, getting into one of her nicer casual outfits. Then she trotted back downstairs, waved to Kaminari and the rest of the squad, and headed out to her date.
She waited at the spot of the date for almost a half an hour before her boyfriend came up, grinning sheepishly. He planted a rough kiss on her lips and they went in to dinner. Mina laughed and joked, feeling lighter already. Her boyfriend grinned and laughed but said nothing.
At the end of the night, Mina asked what the matter was. Her boyfriend looked away, guilty. Mina stepped forward, putting a hand on his arm. He shrugged her hand off, turning away.
"Ashido," he said, "I'm sorry."
Then he told her that he wanted to break up.
Mina wasn't sure what to say. It felt like her whole world had stopped. Her boyfriend scrambled to explain, saying that he just didn't feel the same anymore, and couldn't they just stay friends? Mina nodded, forcing a smile onto her face, saying it was okay, they could still be friends. Her boyfriend sighed in relief, gave her a hug, and then walked her back to the gates of the school.
Mina watched him go, following his figure until he was almost out of sight. She turned and walked steadily until she was out of sight of the gate. Then she sprinted all the way to the dorms. Tears pricked at her eyes, but she refused to cry. Not yet. She didn't want her makeup to run; she didn't want everyone to know.
