baby girl

it flowed through you
you changed into that monster
the creature that hid under my bed

screaming
throwing
glass was breaking
she could relate to that liquor bottle
you threw against the wall

the door clicked.
putting up a barbed wire fence
between you and that baby of a girl.

she sat there
sobbing on the phone to the one person
who might understand

it grew too much.

the next morning was quiet, still.
those birds didn't sing.
instead, sirens rang in the distance
arriving too late.
taking the strand of twine
that took away her breathe
and dulled her beautiful blue eyes.
