It was a terrible winter that year. The snow fell thick and steady, and everything in the vicinity was veiled by brilliant white frost. The people of Greton had run out of food, warm clothing, money, and hope. The happiness that radiated in their hearts from the news of Europa's pregnancy was fading. The night Europa went in labor, the whole village stayed up, waiting. However night faded away to day, and the labor still went on. When Helios couldn't stand his wife's pain anymore, he ran out under the open sky, and standing amid the drifting snow, he demanded the Gods to put an end to this tragedy. As if answering to his prayer, a cry echoed throughout the village, shrill and beautiful. The baby was born. The people of Greton rejoiced. They were also astounded to see the sky clear up the second the baby's scream died, and golden sunlight poured like honey over the town.
When Helios held the baby for the first time, he couldn't believe his eyes, for it was the prettiest baby girl ever born. He knew that his daughter was no ordinary; she was a blessing straight from the Gods, a miracle. Holding her close, he whispered in her ear, "You are Callisto, the most beautiful."
Helios and Europa found all the happiness they could've ever asked for. Greton was happy to see their leaders happy. The snow cleared up rapidly, revealing lush greenery. The migrating birds and animals came back. There was bountiful harvest. Suddenly there was no shortage of food anymore. All the tragedy that tormented the people evaporated. They thought the baby was an angel sent from heaven.
If only they knew.
