"I can't think in this environment!" I was laying on my back on my bed with my head dangling off the end. I was staring at the blank wall in front of me. I squirmed with impatience.
"Try harder." Tuck was sitting criss-cross applesauce playing with a tuff of carpet on the ground in front of my face. He moved his head in close to mine. I could feel his minty breathe on my face. "Piper, you can't let your surroundings effect you. Clear your mind." He moved back and closed his eyes. His hard muscles relaxed and his face went blank.
"How?"
"Close your eyes and relax. Picture yourself in a dark room with no distractions." Within seconds his perfectly white teeth changed to razor sharp fangs. "See? It's not hard, and it doesn't hurt."
"I just don't see why we can't turn down the music. Is it really necessary?" Tuck had Skrillex screaming for the stereo in my room. The music was so loud it was almost tangible.
"Yes. You need to learn to do this in a distracting place." Tuck stood up and walked over to the mirror. He flipped his sandy blonde hair and rubbed at his eyes with the back of his hand. "Come on. This is basic stuff. You need to know how to do this.
"I don't see why this is so important. I am not feeding on humans." I turned over on my stomach and curled up into a ball on my bed.
"You're a vampire, right?"
"Yeah."
"Then it's important. You can't not know how to do it."
"But I just want to be normal. No human needs it. I don't need it." I rolled over to face him.
'Yes you do!"
"NO I DON'T! I am done with this stupid lesson."
"Oh no you aren't" Tuck walked over and slapped my butt. "Get up, you lazy ass!"
He turned around and strutted out the room. I moaned and sat up. I had been training all day. Tuck was trying to teach me the proper way to be a vampire. I tried so hard to retract my fangs, but I just couldn't get it. It didn't seem hard at first. I mean Tuck changed into his fangs all time.
I walked over to the mirror. I had on white-washed jeans with a red v-neck. I grabbed my Chucks from inside my closet and slid them on. I slid a ring on every finger and put on a couple bracelets.
"You coming?" Tuck popped in the doorway
"Where are we going?" I sighed and stole a glance in the mirror one last time. My black hair was tossled and my eyeliner had rubbed off. I looked somewhat normal except for my the piercings lining my ears. Oh, and the bright amber-colored eyes. I gave myself a smirk and pranced off after Tuck.
He was waiting for me with his studded boots only part way laced up and his scarf placed casually around his neck. I slid my arms into my coat and double rapped the scarf around my neck.
"So, you never answered me." I asked
"What did you ask?" I looked him over. He was wearing denim skinnies with a white shirt and a brown leather jacket with a crimson scarf. He always looked better than me. That was one reason I resented him so much. But as much as I don't like Tuck, he is my best friend.
"Where are we going?" I looked up at his perfectly chiseled face. He hadn't shaved in a while and the shadow of facial hair was starting to fill into a beard. In my opinion he looked like a lumber jack with a beard, but he said it made him feel more manly.
"It's a surprise." He turned to open the door, but I grabbed his arm and spun him around.
"No. No. No. You don't get to do that. I have had enough surprises for one week."
