"Ugh"
The first thing I felt was the sun pouring in from my window ready to blind me as soon as I opened my eyes. I slowly climbed out of my bed and went to my bathroom to splash cold water on my face. I should've slowed down with the drinking yesterday. My friends and I stayed out late because we didn't have to work that morning. We were all teachers at Hebbvite Elementary but there had been an ice storm prediction for 4 am that Friday so they closed all the schools.
"That ice storm really came," I said, looking out the small window in my bathroom. My Honda Accord looked like if I removed it there would still be an ice sculpture of the car.
I wiped my face, brushed my teeth, and then dragged myself down to the kitchen to make breakfast.
I had on only my pink thong and I immediately regretted it once I got to the bottom step.
"It's freezing!" I stammered to myself. My nipples perked up immediately. I went to the thermostat and turned it up as high as it could go; my one-bedroom apartment would be warm in no time.
I danced around a little, warming myself up, and went to the kitchen to fix some eggs and bacon.
...
"We are still going to the gym right, Sam?"
"What?! It's freezing out there."
My friend Jessy called me 15 minutes into Will and Grace. I had just finished my breakfast then climbed into my Snuggy for a day of nothingness.
"But we never miss the gym," she whined.
"It's like Jack Frost threw up outside!" I exclaimed, "I think we can take a rest day."
"But I have to lose five pounds before my sister's wedding next week."
"Stop eating then..."
"Uggh! I'm coming over!"
I heard the phone go silent.
I sighed loudly; the thought of putting on pants was bumming me out.
...
I wiped the treadmill down and started the machine. As much as I didn't want to leave the house, I loved an empty gym. Jessy went to the pool and I was pretty much all alone in the treadmill and bike room. Brick Bodies decided to still open today though their front was covered in a layer of ice. Not falling had been a task all day.
I started the treadmill on an incline and at medium speed. I wanted to watch Oprah on the screen in front of me and it would be super hard if I was bouncing everywhere.
"Thank god you're open." I heard a deep voice say at the front desk.
I guessed the ice hadn't stopped everybody. The voice talked for a while to the clerk and I couldn't help be enticed by it. It was kind of sultry. He should be on the radio or something. I saw a white thing, a towel I guessed, fling over the desk and heard him walk down the hallway.
I almost stopped breathing when I saw him. He was the most gorgeous thing I had seen in all my life.
He was of average height and medium build, but I could tell he frequented the gym. He looked at me over his glasses before he took them off. Setting them on a treadmill in the back corner, he grabbed the cleaning towel and wiped the surface down. I could see a heart on the sleeve of his black tee and his workout shorts had pink mustaches on them. It was cute. I didn't want to stare but I couldn't help it. He was just dreamy.
"What a hunk..."
I jumped a little. Jessy appeared at my side out of nowhere.
"I know!" I whispered.
She climbed onto the treadmill beside me. Her pretty brown skin was still glistening from the pool.
"Do you think he notices us staring?" She asked, starting up her treadmill.
I looked at him again. He was into his magazine and had earphones on listening to something.
"Probably not but let's stop before he does." I giggled, "I feel like I've seen him somewhere."
"Where?" Jessy frowned, "The only thing you see is 4-year old's, and parents yelling about them."
I giggled again but she was right, I never went anywhere outside of work and the gym. Jessy had to drag me out last night by bribing me with fresh baked cookies.
"Seriously, I think I've seen him somewhere before."
Jessy smiled, "Well I wished you would remember so we could talk to him."
"Yeah right." I rolled my eyes, "That's what's holding us back, not your husband and my crippling anxiety."
She laughed, "Well that's true for me but you can get over that," she put her treadmill on a higher incline, "Unless of course he's married."
For some reason, I didn't like that scenario.
I looked back at him; he was still in his world and magazine. I could see from the back it was one of the ones my brother reads, Game Informer.
His black hair looked so fluffy, but also like it blew in the wind. It was long on the back of his neck and perfect. I bit my lip imagining my fingers running through it.
"Oh my god, stop staring," Jessy hit me on the shoulder then pointed to the treadmill, "Let's crank this up notch!"
She turned down both our inclines and turned up our speeds.
"I've definitely seen him before," I said, as I began my sprint.
