I took a deep breath and stepped away from the door, my hand reaching for the lock. Click. My mind still wandered on what just occurred. It all went by so quickly I didn't even have time to process. I stood in the middle of the room staring aimlessly into the void which was really a vase of dried out roses on the kitchen table. My pocket buzzed and lit up, snapping me out of my daze. I reached to grab my phone only glancing at the screen for a second before a jolt of lightning ran through my brain. Wincing at the pain, I lowered the brightness and checked once again. Maddie texted me:

12:45PM: Maddie- Hey Jeremy. Today there is a birthday party happening, can you come at around 11PM to come help me clean up? I will let you know how the party went. Thanks.

12:46 PM: Jeremy- Hey Mad. Yeah sure!

12:47 PM: Maddie- Thanks!

My brows furrowed and the corners of my mouth drooped all the way down my chin. The poor phone suffered the wrath of my hand tightening around it enough that It wouldn't shatter, but hard enough anger was released even the slightest.

I decided it was best to take a nap at least until 7PM to be prepared for my shift. I dragged my feet up the stairs and into the hallway leading to my bedroom all while tapping and swiping the dirty screen of my phone. I plopped my phone on the bedside table, closed my curtains, lowered myself onto the bed and turned off the lights. My eyes shut and sleep came to embrace me in their arms. All was calm and peaceful.

Breathing became heavier and heavier as annoyance piled in the pit of my stomach, I opened my eyes, now bloodshot, and stared into the ceiling as my ringtone gradually increased in volume. My head shot up from my pillow causing me to go blind and fall back down on the bed. I stammered to answer the phone and gently placed it on my ear as I stayed in the position I fell back in.

My voice low and raspy answered "Hello?"

"Jeremy!" A feminine voice shot out. It was Maddie. She sounded very shaky and nervous.

" Maddie," I said, sitting up and placing pillows to support my back "what's going on? Are you okay?" I questioned. Worry started to gnaw at my feet and was creeping upwards. Something is wrong.

" Uh.mmm.mm.m.m.. JEREMY I CANNOT BREATHE... JEREMY!"

" MADDIE, CALM DOWN. SPEAK SLOWLY WHAT IS GOING ON!!"

" OK. SO. I WAS HOSTING A KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY, AND ONE OF THE KIDS WENT TOO CLOSE TO THE TOY FREDDY ANIMATRONIC AND IT BIT THE KIDS FRONTAL LOBE OFF." She sobbed.

My heart stopped. It seemed like everything was fading away, I could no longer hear Maddie's voice. The void that I was staring deeply into earlier seemed to have come to take me personally. Ringing pierced my ears making my face scrunch and turn to the side. The ringing slowed and I heard Maddie's crys resonating from the phone leaning on my ear.

" WHAT DO YOU MEAN AN ANIMATRONIC BIT SOME KIDS FRONTAL LOBE OFF?!" I screamed in disbelief.

" The animatronic bit the kids head. There is blood all over the floor and everyone is screaming. I do not know what to do. The police were called and they are taking the kid to the hospital." Maddie quaked.

" Are you okay?"

" Yes, I am fine. But my business could be ruined forever. They are shutting down the place all of tomorrow to investigate the animatronics and see why it happened. We should be opening back up Thursday."
