Hunted

This was suggested by @alagzna. It starts around the time that Viggo has joined with Krogan and Johann. I've never written an xReader before, so let's see how this goes....

He's doing it again. He doesn't rage-- not like Ryker-- but instead sits in his tent for hours on end, planning. Planning, planning, planning. You're sick of his planning! The bags under his eyes and the strain in his voice afterwards are enough to keep you up at night, scheming against the Riders yourself so that he might finally stop worrying about them.

After every defeat-- and some victories too-- he always retreats to his tent and secludes himself from the other Hunters for hours on end. Even you, his most trusted Hunter, he abandons so that he may plan for his next encounter with the Riders.

You sigh and adjust yourself, feeling your armor clink against itself as you do. The others were content with the leather armor that let them move quick but provided minimal protection. You prefer the more sturdy chain mail that doesn't have enough metal to let a dragon's fire roast you like a baked potato, but also keeping that same dragon from killing you with a stroke of its talons.

You stand outside Viggo's tent, as always. There is another Hunter guarding his tent with you, but he is prone to falling asleep. You feel a secret pride that you are the one trusted to guide his tent and the only one of the two to do it right. Then again, you also worry that you won't be enough if anything decides to attack your leader.

When Viggo comes back out of his tent, it's with that triumphant smile that always makes your heart beat faster despite the heartache you know will follow when it slips back off his face. You stand up straighter. "Sir," you say, saluting him. He nods at you and continues walking out the tent. You kick the other guard in the shins-- so he wakes up-- and hurry after Viggo.

You take personal pleasure in glaring at everyone as they pass despite knowing they would never dare attack their leader. Viggo is admired by all his troops as more generous and victorious than his older brother. No Hunter in the lands is more successful than he.

Though Viggo is stoic in nature, he acknowledges all of his Hunters with enough familiarity that they feel like they're being heard. That any of them wouldn't die for him, I don't doubt.

Viggo strides through the camp with you close on his tail. "Call my generals together for a meeting," he tells one of the Hunters. "I have a plan."

You are not privy to the information discussed in the meeting, which is fine as long as you are included in the actual attack. You stand outside the tent where Viggo meets with his generals and do your best not to listen in. At least neither Krogan nor Johann are here. You don't trust either one of them-- especially not Johann. The fact that he had so easily disguised his intentions from the Dragon Riders makes you nervous: You're not sure that he wouldn't easily do it again.

Viggo comes out of the tent beaming. "Notify Johann and Krogan," he tells one of his generals as he strides out. "I've found the last dragon lens."

You hop on the balls of your feet as the ship sails across the dark waters. The last dragon lens. Finally! Perhaps when the Hunters find the King of Dragons, Viggo will finally stop those late night plannings. Perhaps he will finally stop worrying about anything and everything that could mess with his musings. Perhaps perhaps perhaps. At this point, you can only hope.

You look over to your side where Johann stands by Viggo, looking across the water. The man has a cruel sneer plastered on his face and a villainous goatee to match. He is talking with Viggo, but you can't hear what they say. This is by design. Johann trusts no one. The feeling is mutual.
