Day after day, night after night, I've floated and swam around contently. Until, not so long ago, the huge finless people brought her home; my beautiful Rosey-cat.
She's a funny looking creature, I can't deny.
But she's my funny looking creature all the same. All covered in 'fur' as the finless giants call it. Her favorite place is on the windowsill near my humble abode.
Danny, my tank-mate, insists that if my Rosey-cat had the chance, she would eat me alive. I highly doubt that. My beloved would never do such a thing. Nibble perhaps, but never eat. Besides, I'm rather small for her tastes anyway. She prefers a 'bigger catch' you might say.
"It would never work out" says Danny. I can't help but agree. I am, after all, a goldfish; and she, my lovely Rosey-cat, is the feline of the house.
Personally, I'm quite content to merely admire her from afar. Her lovely cream fur glistening as she primps and cleans it. Her hourly bathes and naps by the window. Sometimes she'll fall asleep with her adorable large face facing this way, so I can stare in awe at her beauty.
Though, she probably doesn't even know I exist, aside from the occasional try for a bite out of Danny or me. As I said before, perhaps just a nibble. She always goes for Danny first anyway. I take it as a sign that she enjoys my company more.
He's an annoying fellow either way you slice it.
...
Today is the day! I will finally confess my love to the beautiful Rosey-cat. She'll be by for her nap soon.
And there she is, right on schedule. Her Safire gaze meets mine, I mouth 'I love you!' with my fishy lips. She meows and paws at the glass of my tank, a rather loud reply in my opinion- but no matter, and stares a moment before continuing on her way.
I could swim for hours! She notices my existence! Danny has his negativities, but I ignore him as I always do.
I know that the two of us will be together till the end of our days now, even if I'm quite small and water-bound.
...
It's been a long, long time since that fateful day. Danny has moved on to a better place, and a young pair has come to replace him; Jerry and Grace.
I rather like Jerry, not at all the downer Danny was. He keeps my fins moving when I'd be quite content to be still and admire my Rosey-cat who is sitting by the window taking one of her many naps. Grace is quite the humorous youngling, always making jokes. When Jerry isn't bothering me to swim around, she'll stay and admire Rosey-cat along side me.
Such fine children they are.
I have a strange fishy-feeling that I won't be around for much longer, and pass on much as Danny did. He once talked of this odd fishy-feeling before the end. I've already told Grace and Jerry, they're coming to terms with it. All I have to do now is say good-bye to Rosey-cat.
I'm waiting until she wakes up.
As her eyes peek open, her gaze focuses on me like that day so long ago. Once more I mouth, 'I love you!'
She meows and gets up, trotting over. She paws at the glass once more, meowing again. I swim in a circle, and mouth my final words, 'Good-bye, my love!'
She lays in front of me, watching as I slowly close my eyes with my vision fading.
And that is the last thing I will ever remember, my beautiful Rosey-cat meowing a soft good-bye.
...
The End!
