The cullens had lived in their house for generations. It came out of no where like a force pushing into their lives. The first to come across it killed many of the townspeople leaving the rest in constant fear. The evil, once it was happy with the people it killed would then kill the persons body it was taking over, to get its soul, spirit whatever it was out of that body to prepare for the next. as for the people in the town they tried to leave but it was impossible. They simply couldn't. The evil wouldn't let them, it would only make it worse for them so they knew better by now. People could come in the town but never come out alive. eventually the cullens were all killed off at once, leaving no one for the evil to take over. the townspeople however had all been killed.
