Chapter 4
Nathaniel’s sitting by the dock enjoying the morning breeze. He never had a chance to spend more than one day here at Crest. Last year Nathaniel decided to build a vacation house, a place where he can escape and relax.
While he scouting for a great place to build he happened to discover the small town of Crest. He thought it was such a nice place and the people are very welcoming, they welcomed the idea of building a small town Centre. That was three years ago. Now that the buildings are done he’s decided to build his own private paradise in Crest. That way he can relax without anybody knowing who he is but still close enough that he can oversee the business if ever he’s needed. Nathaniel’s family specializes in building luxuries, like malls, resorts. When Nathaniel joined the family business four years ago he decided to pitch in to his father that building schools and clinics could help boost their reputation and also be able to give back to the community, killing two birds with one stone so he said. His father welcomed the idea and let Nathaniel take over the company. For the last few years he’s been going back and forth from Crest to London, so finally he decided to build the house by the lake.
Putting his feet up and waiting for the fishing line to move he was about to close his eyes when something caught the bait. Scrambling to his feet he caught the rod and tugged. After a few tugs the line snapped, Nathaniel cursed. He rummaged into his kit to find a spare line but he came up with nothing. He’d have to go to town to purchase a new one.
He got up not bothering to gather his things and walked to his house. He surveyed the surroundings and gave him a mental pat in the back for finding such a piece of hidden paradise. He came across the lake on one of his first visits, he was unfamiliar with the small town and gotten lost, on top of that, his car couldn’t take the unfamiliar terrain and one of the front wheels popped. He wandered off hoping to find signal when he found the lake and the land surrounding it. The lake he found was remote, he was surprised it wasn’t filled with people swimming and basking in the sun, it could easily be a public park. The water serene and the land vast. Luckily the owner of the property has been trying sell it off for years but no one was ever interested. Seems like serendipity brought him to Crest, so he took the opportunity and bought the land and never regretted it.
He’s always wanted a place that he can call his own. All his past houses were built with the help of his family’s money, but this one is all his. Even though he is proud of the house and what it represents, not many people have come to stay. Only his family but not friends or girlfriends, he wanted this to be private.
The lake isn’t that far from the town Centre, doesn’t have traffic so fifteen minutes and he’s already there. The heat in town is much different than at the lake where he’s sheltered with never ending trees. He went inside the fish shop to look at some of the baits, and after he decided to go in the mall where the hardware shop is located and air conditioning.
Walking inside the mall was a relief from the heat outside. It’s not crowded as it’s after lunch already. It seems like everywhere he looked he sees his family’s stamp. His family’s business helped built the mall and a few other buildings. His latest project would be the school. Nathaniel decided to buy a cool drink before heading out. Unfortunately he dropped his phone while ordering and it won’t turn back on again. He wanted to get home before dusk as the fishes catch better at that time so he’s had to make a quick stop at the mobile place.
