Izuku lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. He had nothing to do, his shift didn't start for another few hours and he had just come back in from playing. People tended to get annoyed if he sat out there for more than four hours. But they hated seeing him leave before then. Whatever.
Izuku sighed and rolled over, staring at the only picture of his mother he had left. He couldn't keep any of the others when he was put in the foster system. He could only choose one, the place that took him in didn't want him to have too many things.
His mom's green hair was pulled into a half bun, with most of it flowing around her face. Her green eyes sparkled at the camera, and she held a bundle of blankets in her arms, which would eventually be Izuku. He ran a finger along the edge, smiling softly.
"I wish you were still here Mom...Maybe I wouldn't be in such a terrible position right now..." he mumbled to the picture, wishing that he'd raised the money just a day faster. Maybe then she would still be here if he had.
Whatever. What's done is done. This is the life I live now. And there's nothing I can do about that. Izuku thought before turning off the light and hoping he could get some sleep.
"Izuku!" Izuku snapped out of his thoughts, looking up at his best friend. Her brown hair was pulled into a bun, which was somewhat hard, as her hair was pretty short. Her brown eyes looked down at Izuku carefully.
"Are you okay?" she asked. Izuku nodded, smiling up at her. "Yeah. I'm fine Uraraka. Did you need something?" he asked, hoping to just get this over with.
Uraraka gave him that look, and he knew he wouldn't hear the end of it. She reminded him so much of-
"Izuku, we're all worried about you. You keep pushing yourself way past your limits and it's scaring us. You stay up all night playing your violin, only to play some more on the cold street, where you're going to freeze soon, and then you come here to stay up late again." She took his hand, running a finger along the bags under his eyes.
He shook his head, smiling softly and weakly at her. "I swear, I'm fine. It's really nothing. I'll start taking more breaks once it gets colder."
Uraraka sighed. "I know you play to make more money for yourself, but you're going to freeze to death if you do that in the winter."
"I'll play inside. People like hearing music in cafes. I might even get a little more than just on the street." Even as he spoke, he knew that the effort was futile. Uraraka would manage to get him to stop, even if she knew that he needed the money.
Uraraka stared at him, watching as he fought to keep himself awake. He looked at her and sighed. "Fine, I'll stop. Just let me finish this shift then I'll head home."
Uraraka smirked at him. "I'll stay right here to make sure you do." Izuku sighed, cause he knew there was no getting out of this one.
