"Princess! Princess!" I open my eyes and rub the sleepiness out of them. I keep hearing my name being called so I look around and realize it's coming from downstairs. Once I reach the bottom of the stairs Martha, Casey, and my mom are already down there. "Yes what is it. I was in a very nice dream so this better be important." They all let out little laughs before my mom starts to talk. "You and Casey have to go meet her dad today so start getting ready. Also you have a code brown." I look in the closet mirror and whine. "What's a code brown?" Casey and Martha say at the same time. "Bad hair day." I say while still whining. Casey and Martha let out soft giggles and I turn and give them the death stare. I head back upstairs to try and tame this birds nest people call hair.
As I'm brushing and combing out my hair Casey hugs me from the behind and sways me back and forth. "Princess it's not really that bad." I turn around so that we are face to face and pout. "Yes it is. It's hideous." She pecks my pout and I instantly smile. "Well I think it's beautiful." I roll my eyes and continue to brush and comb through my hair. After twenty five minutes it's finally tamed and how it should've been in the first place. I smile in satisfaction and turn to face Casey. I frown a little when I see that she dozed off back to sleep. I decide that I'm just gonna jump on her. I launch myself on her and she bolts up, her hands instantly going around my waist. She sighs in relief when she realizes it's just me. "You scared me!" I laugh and wrap my arms around her neck. "Payback for the first time you spent the night at my house and you scared me making me bump my head on the wall." She laughs and pecks my forehead. "Come one we got to get dressed." I release my hold from her and walk over to our closet. Yes I said our because all her clothes and shoes are here which still makes me giggle.
"You ready babes?" She nods a little. We are at the skating rink and she's nervous. I grab her hand and squeeze it which she returns. Martha said that he's already there so I'm guessing that's what made her nervous. "Hey if you want we can just leave it's ok." She shakes her head no and gets out the car. I do so also and we reconnect our hands. She takes a deep breath and pulls open the door. I giggle a bit and she smiles. We walk in and head straight to the snack bar. I buy us icees and some sour ropes. Jessica is serving once again and I think she likes when we come because that same smile is always on her face when she sees us approach. We walk over to the tables and Casey spots her dad. He has slicked back brown hair, same skin tone as Casey, but other than that looks nothing like her. I came to realize she's a spitting image of her mother.
"Hey dad. This is my girlfriend Brittany. Princess this is my dad." We exchange hellos and such. As if on cue a woman and a little boy come running up to Casey's dad, Rodger and sits down on either side of him. "Well this is my wife Vanessa and my son, your half brother Jaylen." We wave and introduce ourselves to them. Once everyone is introduced we all sit down and talk. It's mostly Jaylen running off to play games and skating, me talking to Vanessa, and Casey catching up with her dad.
I'm at the snack bar just talking to Jessica and Vanessa when Casey hugs me from behind. I giggle and catch a glimpse of Jessica giving Casey a death stare and Vanessa smiling. I ignore it when Casey let's go and sighs. "Hey you ok?" She starts to bite her nails. I remove her nails from her mouth and and ask the question again. Before she can answer Vanessa says something.
"How'd you know she's upset?"
"Oh she has three different sighs. One for when she's happy, one for when she's sad, and one for when she's relieved. I memorized them all in a month and that sigh was a sad one."
"Now that's what you call love."
I giggle and Casey smiles. "Can we go home I don't wanna be here anymore." Casey asks. "Oh no did your father try to convince you to come to Canada with us? I told him not to do that but he never listens. I'm sorry." Casey nods and tells her it's not her fault. "It's okay babes we can rebuild the awesome fort I came up with and have a movie night in there. Sounds like a plan?" Casey nods and sighs. "What type of sigh was that?" Vanessa asks. "That was a happy sigh mixed in with a relieved sigh. Very rare coming from Casey." Vanessa laughs. "I'm right here you know?" I nod and try to squirm out of Casey hold. "Babes I have to walk release me." Instead of doing what I asked she throws me over her shoulder and laughs. "Casey you know I hate being carried like this!" I shout. "I know." She shouts back. I huff and cross my arms because there's no use to trying to get down. Vanessa laughs at us and we both say our goodbyes. Casey doesn't utter a word or even look at her dad. We both manage to find Jaylen and say goodbye before walking back to the car where Casey puts me down. We look at the parking lot which contains our moms.
"Hey mom whatcha doing here?" Casey asks. "Well Linda has managed to convince me to come skate and considering you guys are already here we thought we can all skate together." Casey and I look at each other and nod. "Well this plan is better than our plan so yeah let's go." I say. They smile and we walk in only to see Casey's dad walking out but Vanessa and Jaylen are still there.
