*Mackenzie's POV*
Today is the day I leave. My work has switched me to an office in America, leaving my best friend for 14 years, my family, and all my memories behind. I haven't told Niall about my departure yet, he would never let me leave.
I have known Niall since I was 5, and we instantly became best friends. Niall and I have been so close to each other. He's in almost every memory I have, from my first boyfriend to my recent breakup. From my first day of kindergarten to my last day of high school. From my first step into the classroom to my first step into the real world, Niall has been with me.
I can't believe I have to leave everything. It just doesn't feel right leaving my home, my one and only place where I don't feel alone. Leaving behind all my childhood friends in Mullingar. I don't know if I'm ever coming back.
I walk into my empty house one final time. I have lived here my whole entire life, my parents were the ones who moved out to live outside of Dublin, when I would only visit a few times a year. I let a few tears trickle down my cheek as just one empty room brings back so many memories.
I look to where my couch use to sit. I remember like it was just yesterday that I've had my first kiss on that sofa. This sounds really weird but my first kiss was Niall.
*~Flashback~*
"Ahh! Niall quit it!" I yelled at him, making him laugh ever harder.
"Not until you say 'Niall is the sexiest Irishman alive'!" He yelled back, still laughing as he tickled my sides.
"But Niall you know I can't lie!" I hollered, with short laughs in-between. He couldn't control himself now.
"But c'mon Kenzie! You know you can't deny the truth!" He said as he slowed down on the tickling.
He suddenly stopped, looking into my eyes.
"Thank you." I said, trying to get up since he was on top of me.
It didn't work. I try again but he started tickling me again.
"FINE! NIALL HORAN IS THE SEXIEST MOFO ALIVE!" I yelled as loud as I could, but he still didn't stop.
"I said IRISHMAN no MOFO!" He said, tickling me even more now.
"Fine! Niall Horan is the sexiest Irishman alive!" I yelled in his face. As he stopped tickling me I smiled.
"Happy now?" He asked, allowing me to catch my breath.
"Very." I said, taking a deep breath. Again he looked into my eyes and this time started leaning down. I didn't stop him though. Eventually his lips rested on mine. After a couple seconds he realised what he was doing. He pulled away and got up.
"Sorry." He muttered, as I slowly stood up.
"It's okay." I said, also realising what just happened.
*~Flashback over~*
That happened 7 years ago. But I still remember it like it was yesterday.
I couldn't take anymore of anything. This house is the only place I belong, but I have to leave.
As I walked out my door, I took one last deep breath.
I just stared at my old house, turning around and see the 'For Sale' sign I had put up an hour ago.
Thankfully Niall wasn't at his house, he was at work as well, working at his favourite restaurant 'Nando's'. That used to be the restaurant we would go to almost every Friday, just to have a nice little dinner.
I walked over to my car and opened the door, my suitcases already packed in the back.
I've sold this car but meeting the lady I sold it to at the airport.
I drove off, looking in my rearview mirror, looking at my old house next to the blonde boy I have lived next to for my whole life, get smaller and smaller.
Many tears escaped my eyes and I drove to my 11:30 flight to Raleigh, North Carolina.
~1 hour later~
"Boarding flight to Raleigh, North Carolina in 5 minutes." The voice on the speaker came on. I decided to call Niall to tell him I'm leaving.
"Hey sorry I can't get to the phone right now, please leave a message after the tone. -Beep-"
"Hey Niall, it's Mackenzie." I started, already sniffing my nose. "I'm sorry I can't do this in person, I just have to say goodbye. My work is making me move to North Carolina in the states, and I couldn't say goodbye to you in person, I just couldn't. Niall, I don't think I am ever coming back. I just wanted to say goodbye, I will never forget my best friend, who has been through everything with me. You will always been on my mind and in my heart. I'm trying really hard not to cry, but I just can't do it Niall. I can't leave you but I have to. If I tried doing this in person I would never be able to say goodbye to you to your face. I really don't want to leave." Now I was sobbing, letting it all spill. "But I have to. Don't forget me and talk to me as much as you can, I love you Niall, I will love you forever, you have been my best friend for 14 years and you made my life complete. Now I have to go." I said as the voice came over on the intercom telling me my flight was boarding. "Goodbye Niall. Don't forget me."
Those were my final words to Niall. I walked over to my boarding area and gave the women my ticket. I made sure that the women got the car before I boarded the plane. I walked on and put my luggage in the cupboard above my seat. We started up into the sky and I took my last look at Mullingar, fading away behind me.
My new life is suppose to start now, but instead is still dying as I fly off into the distance.
