They call it the calm before the storm, but why? Maybe because everything is fine and one moment is not. Or because you may sound calm from the outside but inside is a burning hell. Where is your cold water to extinguish your fire? And where is the warmth that engulfs you? More importantly where are you? Are you stuck in the storm or you trying to get out or is there someone to snatch you from it?
The rings from Daniel's phone snap him out of his thoughts, he pulls the phone out of his pocket and accepts the call. " Why are you late?" Isaac's voice is distant but still he can hear him.
" A technical error occurred causing an unexpectedly long bout of unconsciousness." Daniel says, staring at the wall in front of him.
" Overslept?" Isaac's chuckle is visible through the phone.
Daniel rolls his eyes. " Yeah overslept."
" Well, we need you here plus your shift is about to start and you are never late so hurry." Isaac yells not seriously but loud enough for his brother.
Daniel sighs and he doesn't know why he is laughing at the moment. " Yes, boss."
Isaac shares a laugh with him. " Drive safely bro." Then he hangs up.
Daniel the phone away from his eras and stares at it. His vision is blurry so everything else. And again he cries he is sorry yet scared he lied and everything is not okay as he thought. He clenches his hand in a shaky fists as he tries to stand up, he feels dizzy like there is not any ground underneath him. Daniel holds his head in his hands trying to control himself. " Just hang in there a little longer." He whispers to himself with pain and fear eating his whole body.
A knock on the door followed by a nurse, she reports. " Doctor, there is someone who asks for you at the ER."
" Did they say who?" Isaac looks at some charts while walking towards the door.
She shakes her head then tells him where that person is. Isaac just hands her the charts and goes down stairs to the ER. He arrives at one of the ER's beds. He takes one of the gloves and wears it ready to examine whoever is laying down on that bed. He removes the curtains. " How could I help..." He stops mid sentence when his eyes meet with Daniel. " You?"
Daniel can feel the fear in his chest waiting to take over. Perhaps it only wants to protect him but there really isn't any danger. It sits there like an angry ball propelling him towards an anxiety he just doesn't need.
" Hey Brother." He is out of breath. His chest going up and down with an opened wound in his forehead dripping blood on his shirt.
Isaac's jaw clenches, he goes white like a blank page. " What the hell happened to you?" He tries his best to stay calm.
Daniel doesn't answer, he just looks at him desperately and he is scared. Why does everything just drop and change so fast like this?. " I was in an accident. Well I'm the cause of it." he mutters.
" What?" Isaac shouts, which earns him some looks from other people.
Daniel starts to lose it. " Don't yell I'm in pain already. And everything is spinning and I'm also tired. I ask for you not to yell at me but to help, so do your freaking job Doctor."
" Fine but you know what? You are an idiot." Isaac spits and starts to do his job as his brother said. He starts to clean his wound to stitch it. But deep down Isaac is scared too. He never sees him like this before they yell at each other everyday but in a funny way not like this.
What is wrong he doesn't know. But Isaac is sure for one thing that Daniel started to act weird the past months, he was not his calm and steady brother but he was the one who was beaten up with anxiety. Everything comes in his view now Isaac notices the dark circles around his brother's eyes, his shaken hands and his lack of attention.
