-~Ken~ (Yeah I changed the way I display changes in P.O.V. ~ is third person, - is first)
Ken stared outside at the stormy sky. Lightning was crackling all around them; the thunder had become background noise.
Fear pulsed inside of him, but he didn't let it show. He came all this way. He was going to drop out now.
And I have to make it up to Valt...
Guilt welled up inside of him. I failed him... He was so angry at me. I guess he had reason to... I didn't help him when he really needed it.
I'll do whatever it takes. Even going on a plane to Mexico that might crash in a storm.
Valt was sitting next to him, his face excited. "I'm going to challenge Ashtem too!" he cried, pumping his fist. "Then me and Shu can team up and defeat him!"
"Shu wouldn't want to team up," Daigo remarked. "He prefers to do everything by himself."
"True," Valt murmured.
Wakiya was sitting in the front of the plane. "Sugihara, lunch please!" he called. Lunch consisted mostly of sandwiches for Ken and the others, but Wakiya had a sear fried fish along with sides of corn, carrot, and mashed potato.
"Yum!" Valt exclaimed, stuffing a sandwich in his mouth. "More!" "My lollipop taste better," Honcho muttered. "At least I brought a lot of them." Wakiya huffed, rolling his eyes. "Sandwiches and lollipops."
"Guys look," Daigo interrupted. "The Snake Pit."
. . .
Ken had never been to the Snake Pit before, but he had heard plenty of stories from Valt. The plane had dropped them off not too far, so they walked half an hour before reaching it.
The Snake Pit was a large and imposing building, shaped like a step pyramid. A set of closed doors were at the front. Valt glanced up, and shouted, "Ashtem! Let us in!"
"Trespassers!"
Wakiya groaned. "Not again."
The one who had called was a boy that looked no older than eighteen. As he came down the pyramid, Ken could see he wore a black mask with white highlights. He wore a black outfit with a loose, long gray jacket. Both had white lines on them.
He had dark eyes through the mask, so Ken guessed his eye color was dark. "Are you Black Eye Or Gray Eye?"
The stranger scowled. "They are dismissed. I am Shadow Eye."
"We want to see Ashtem," Valt declared. "I want to challenge him in the tournament." Shadow Eye scowled again. "I already let the other one in. You will have to wait."
"Let them in," Ashtem's voice boomed. "This one is the friend the other one talked about." Ken could see through Shadow Eye's mask that he was simmering. "Fine. But any tricks, and you'll fall out into the jungle."
"That really happened," Honcho whispered to Ken. "I nearly fell out."
Valt led the way through the open doors, but Ashtem said something else. "Only you."
Before Valt could react, the doors slammed shut, enclosing Ken's best friend inside the building.
~Valt~
SLAM!
Valt whipped around. Instead of his friends and jungle behind him, a pair of stone doors blocked the only way out.
"Ashtem!" Valt shouted. "Let them through!" His voice echoed through the stone passageway.
"Only you," Ashtem repeated. "If you want to see your friend, go straight until you find a locked door of metal blocking the way. Say 'Masked Blader', and someone will open the door for you. Ignore all stone doors; they are unimportant if you want to challenge me."
