I headed down the hundreds of halls in the base, getting lost a couple of times and asking some of the employees for help, and finally found the stairs to the base after a solid ten minutes of searching and wandering.
Fortunately, the door was already left open, and I slid down the rails, arriving at a dark hallway. I walked to the very end of it, where a door with a big sign saying "WINSTON'S LAB" was displayed. Unlike most of the other rooms in the base, his lab had a doorbell, a small red button located next to the sign.
Before I even touched the button, the door slid open and Winston stood there, waiting for me.
"Hey, Y/N, you're finally here!" He exclaimed. "I'll just be adding your fingerprint to the system, so this shouldn't take too long."
"Is that why I triggered the alarm?" I asked.
"Yep. Usually, we don't add fingerprints until the person (or monkey) is of age, and by that, I mean 18, but after today's situation, I figured that doing it a few days in advance wouldn't do any harm. I already got the okay from both your parents, so there shouldn't be any problem in doing it."
Winston pulled an extra chair up to his computer and motioned for me to sit down. He opened a few files, typed some code, and then another plate, almost identical to the one from the room earlier popped out.
"Just put your finger here, lightly," he instructed.
I followed what he said, and then he uploaded the files from my fingerprint to the computer.
"The databases need time to register it, so we'll just be here for a little longer to assure that everything is completed. So, what interesting things did you do today?"
"Well, today I did shooting with Ana," I said. "I finally got a chance to try using Ana's old rifle. It shoots really quickly."
"Yeah, after all, she was one of the best snipers in Overwatch history! Not to mention, I modified it myself," Winston said proudly. "That's why it's still in use, even fifty years from when I made it!"
"So surprising," I said sarcastically. "What other crazy things have you created?"
"Honestly, not much. For starters, I made the whole Athena and security system in the base. I also created the chronal accelerator, in addition to modifying most of the agents' weapons."
"Is that it?"
"Nope! I could go on and on about all the things I've made if I had the time."
"So one more thing I would like to get straight," I started.
"Yes? I'd be happy to answer any of your questions."
"How come everyone gets all this cool stuff made by you, but I don't even have my fingerprint registered in the systems? Don't you think I could... I dunno, like, have a little something, too?"
"See, you are too young to acquire such knowledge, like how to use machinery or more advanced weapons. Most agents joined when they were far much older than you, and they already understood enough of the world to start doing what they do now."
"Scan and upload complete," announced Athena. "Fingerprint of Y/N L/N has been stored in Overwatch databases. Thank you for your time."
Ignoring Athena, Winston continued. "You're still quite young, and although we've distinguished that you will be following Ana's path as a sniper, you still have many talents that we've probably haven't discovered yet. You'll be eighteen soon and go on missions, but for now, training is our top priority for you."
"It sounds like life when I'm eighteen will be much more interesting," I added.
"Definitely, Y/N," Winston replied. "Anyway, the clock's ticking, and I know that tomorrow you have a long day. Your parents are out for the night, but that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. I suggest you head to your room now, and get some rest before tomorrow."
