The man was narrow with a tall frame and glasses that looked more like it was more of a computer than glasses. He stood with confidence and pride, as if he knew more than he let on. His auburn hair was slicked back, the longest strands almost reaching the top of his collar. He stood, his lips pursed, with his hands behind his back, waiting for a response. My response. However, as intimidating as he was I was still able to respond with my normal composed sarcasm.

"You realize it's rude to ease drop." I stated, guiding Ruki behind me as I stepped forward.

"I am aware. I unfortunately do not have the luxury of time for formalities at the moment." The man stepped forward in a controlled manner as to close the space between us. "I must inform you that you are being targeted for reasons that must remain confidential for the time being." He said in a low voice. I looked at him skeptically.

"Is that so?" I asked not buying what he was trying to sell. "And why would I of all people be targeted?"

"As I stated before, I am not at liberty to clarify as it is confidential at the moment. I would however suggest you leave this place and find shelter with your father." The man said still in a hushed tone. I scoffed at this.

"Oh yes, because my father isn't the last person I want to... Wait, how do you know about my father?" I asked questionably, this guy was beginning to make me nervous. I tightened my grip on Ruki's hand, making him make a groan of discomfort.

"Again, confidential. I can tell you that I am a reliable source and that you should heed my advice and take shelter from this place" the man said, straightening himself and speaking slightly louder.

"Might I at least know why I should even bother listening to you?" I asked beginning to get pissed of at how shady he was being. Pushing his glasses up while looking down he grinned.

"Let's just say that my source is a reliable one." With that he turned and began to walk away. I strode forward and grabbed his sleeve.

"Can I at least know your name?" I asked, my frustration evident from my tone. Yanking his arm out of my reach he took a step toward me and whispered in my ear.

"The name is Maxie and if you're lucky we will never have the pleasure of meeting again."

Ruki and I sat on the beach close to the Lilycove port. Ruki played with sand and hummed as he listened to the boats while I sat watching him, lost in thought. Staring at him now he truly looked his age, bringing a small pang of happiness to my heart.

My thoughts wandered from the shore however. Who was this stranger Maxie and why would he even bother to warn me about being targeted? Why would I even be targeted? It's not like I'm a threat or anything. Questions like these bounced in my mind. If there was one thing I knew for certain was that I did not trust this Maxie fellow, he looked shady and I did not trust how he could not give me a straight answer.

I stared at the summer sun setting over the the calm sea, watching cruise ships head toward the Battle Frontier. Maybe one day when I could leave my home I could try to become a trainer, take Ruki along and travel Hoenn together. Maybe....

"Emi!" Ruki called, not moving his head to call toward me.

"What is it Ruki?" I asked softly putting my hand on his shoulder to let him know I was still beside him.

"Tell me why Eevee left." He said, now turning his head toward me. My brow furrowed. I picked up the small plushie that sat beside him looking at it with sad eyes.

"If I tell you will you stop asking?" I sighed, know that if I did not tell him he would just ask again later. Ruki nodded his head in no particular direction, making him look kind of silly.
