What the Black Roses Did
It came in a gift box
Wrapped in black and blue.
Found it in my backyard
Where suddenly, black roses grew.
I held my breath
As the stench overwhelmed me
With thoughts that sank my heart
Which black roses reminded me of.
My heart seeked for comfort,
Something to cry on.
Yet all I heard was my voice,
Weeping into the empty world.
The dead air had drunken me,
Losing myself within it alone.
When I saw your name embedded on my broken heart,
I knew it was you who left me the gift box
and planted the roses,
That does set the world and I apart.
