"Thanks Kookie." You smile at the younger man as he sets some water and medication next to you.
"Jin says you need to take them every four hours." He reminds you.
You shift up in your bed, biting back the pain in your side, and reach for the water.
"I'm sure he did." You say with a laugh.
Jungkook nods and turns around, walking to the door. You watch him, noticing the apprehension in his footsteps as you take a sip from your glass.
Jungkook reaches for the handle, but at the last moment spins to face you. He opens and closes his mouth, searching for words, but remains silent. You set your glass down and pat the space next to your legs on the bed. He moves and sits down, fingers fumbling in his lap.
It's a few seconds before he speaks.
"Why did you go?"
"Go where?"
"On that mission. Taehyung's mission."
"I was searching for him. It was the last place I knew he went."
Jungkook looks at you. "But it was dangerous, a solo mission."
You laugh. "And of course you're one to talk. Don't you remember running into a burning building without thinking?"
He smiles faintly. "I think I understand how everyone must've felt then."
"You were worried?"
He nods. "I saw you leave the house. I couldn't sleep and was looking out the window."
"I didn't think anyone was awake." You say.
Jungkook sniffs. "I thought you were leaving us. I thought..." He pauses, not meeting your eyes as his knuckles whiten on his knees. "I thought you were leaving because Taehyung had gone."
You nearly shatter at his small voice, and put a hand on his shoulder.
"I would never run away from you all. I love Tae of course and who knows if I would have ended up here without him. But you're my family, and I'm here to stay, even if we are missing a part of us right now."
"I should've known that." He says through glossy eyes.
"I'm sorry for going alone. I felt like it was something I had to do, but I realise how dangerous solo missions can be."
Jungkook grits his teeth. "And Alpha meant for it to kill Taehyung."
"I'm just lucky he made it out alive, and me as well. That mission could've killed both of us."
His head snaps up to look at you with wide eyes. "Y/N... You don't think..."
You frown. "Think what?"
Jungkook lowers his voice. "What if that was the point. What if Alpha knew you would go on Taehyung's mission."
You blink. "But that doesn't make any sense. Why wou-"
You're interrupted by the doorbell ringing through the house. The two of you go very still and your heart begins beats faster in your chest. Is it Taehyung? Finally back home? Or Alpha? Gun, at his side prepared to shoot everyone dead. Either way you refuse to hide.
You hold Jungkook's arm. "Help me get downstairs."
He nods and helps you to your feet.
Thanks to the youngest's speed, you're downstairs in a matter of seconds. Namjoon moves out of his office towards the door and you hold your breath. Slowly, and very carefully, the leader turns the handle and opens the door. He's tall, too tall, and obscures whoever is outside from view. But you see his shoulders relax, and he turns around to smile at you before stepping to one side.
