Infant. (Part 1)

A year had passed since the twins' mother had carried on with her life, leaving the two within the Uncle's care. The twins were now almost 2 years old at this point. Despite their tragic incoming, the Uncle made sure to keep the two safe and sound from the harshness of the outside world. He made sure that they felt their happiness in the new world. He kept that promise that no matter what, he'll keep the two safe and sound.

The twins' years growing up were quite healthy, making sure they had their suitable, stable living space and their needs safely met. In fact, he treated them so well, they might as well have called him their father. Despite how happy the twins were, they still had lived a rather poor life. Their home was not necessarily large, and their food was simply limited, but they pushed on with what they have and had treated it as normal.

"Akashi Tamachi."

"Yes, your honor?"

"You do wish to still support the custody of these two infants?"

The twins, now being almost 5 years of age now, had hid behind their rather strict uncle. He was being held in court for the adoption of the girls. They had finally caught on to him nurturing the twins without legal consent, and was being rather strictly punished. The girls were shuddering softly as he held them close, his hands being slightly cold from the harsh air conditioning within the courthouse.

"I, Tamachi Akashi, do assure you, your honor, that my care for these pair of twins is legal, proper, and well-established. As of their mother, who has been long gone, her whereabouts are unknown, however, I wish to assist these two into becoming a civilized part of this community."

He closed his eyes and held his head down tilted, a nervous aura shifted around him as he tried his best to keep custody of the girls. The children, gazing up at their troubled family member, then thought of a plan to prove him innocent. The judge, growing impatient with the court, huffed haughtily in a split second,

"Mr. Tamachi, do these girls express the same amount of respect towards you as you state that you treat them?"

Akashi then flinched for a split second. He never had thought about the girls' mindset as much, he just thought of everything he did was always for them, so they would not have to think of such dark thoughts. In all his years, he had made sure they were happy, so that they grew up well.

"I...um...well-"

"Of course! Mr. Judge-Person!"

The oldest one had called out, rather suddenly, the youngest one looked at her sister with the most 'are you serious?!' look on her face,

"Kit, are you crazy?! You're gonna get us in trouble!" Luna had said, Kitsune just stared at her sister back with the same face,

"Yeah, and? This whole situation isn't right!"

"Who cares? Just because something isn't right, you can't just go speaking out!"

"SILENCE IN THE COURT."

The judge had suddenly blurted out, causing complete quietness within the room. Both twins, shaken, had suddenly darted their eyes towards the looming judge, both feeling intimidated. They immediately rushed behind their uncle, the twins shaking like leaves in the wind.

"Alright, alright. Enough with this hubbub. You have all wasted my patience anyways."

"Your honor-"

"ENOUGH!"

The judge had slammed his gavel onto the podium, the noise echoing throughout the hall. All murmurs heard within the crowd had come to an abrupt silence.

"Now, for the pending finalization. As I was listening. Ms. Kitsune Tamachi, was there something you wished to say. I apologize for my, somewhat alarming outburst."

"U-um y-yeah! Mister J-Judgy guy," 

"It's 'your honor', Kitsune"
Luna whispered to her sister, Kitsune gave her a look of 'I know, dumbass',

"..A-anyways, um...Our uncle, he's a really great guy! He's been there for us since...I dunno. But um...he's nice, and um...he helps us a lot, and he is a really good person to take care of us!"
She finished off, the judge nodded in approval.

"I see, and would you like to add on, Ms. Luna Tamachi?"

"Mmph-! E-erm, yes, your Honor..." Luna began to speak rather formal in an understanding tone,

"What my sister means is that yes, our uncle is suitable for...um, our care."
Despite the twins being rather young, they have been known for their 'efficient' vocabulary. Their uncle taught them most of their education and has been doing a fantastic job at doing so. Suddenly, the judge began to speak once again.

"Very well then, may I ask the jury to please make their decisions in the left hall of 1-D?"

The crowd of the jury exited the hall and proceeded to their designated room. A quick rise in the hall room chatter occurred, breaking the silence. The twins' uncle glanced down at the kids and rubbed their heads comfortingly,

"You two are very outspoken. But please do not get yourselves into adult situations."

He began to lecture, but Luna wasn't having it,

"But they were gonna take you away from us! And for a...stupid reason!"

A gasp is heard from Kitsune,

"Luuunaaaa! You said 'stuupiiid!'" She began to tease and the twins began to slightly fight at each other,

"Now now, please do not fight in the judgement hall!" The uncle assured, breaking the two up. The twins huffed and glanced away from each other, somewhat playfully. The uncle just chuckled softly and patted both of their heads. After a few minutes, the jury had walked back into the hall, causing the room to fall utterly quiet once again.

"Order in the court, the jury had made their decision. Please, state your verdict."

Each jury member stated their opinions on the manner and soon enough, the case began to approach an end.

(I swear, as I'm writing this, I am getting heavy Ace Attorney vibes-)

Soon enough, they had reached their end.

"Alright, with all the jury's tallied votes, I, the judge, have made my final decision."

The crowd fell silent, everyone paid very close attention towards the final answer. Akashi took in a deep breath as he held his distant children close to him. You could faintly see tears form in his eyes. The twins clung on to him as if they were holding on for dear life.

"I sentence Mr. Akashi Tamachi..."

Just then, the twins had started bawling. They never wanted him to leave. They never wanted this to happen. By far, this had been so traumatizing for the kids to bear. By this time, this had marked the beginning of their life struggle, their first trauma...

Their first sign of...

...despair.
