𝕺nce upon a time a king and queen birthed a son in a time of unsettled aggresion. war on the tip of everyone's tongue, even the melodies of the songbirds seemed to have been dipped in the bleeding ink of fright. in attempt to quell the rising tension the queen decided to hold a baby shower as a peace gathering and invited all their possible threats to feast and celebrate the birth of the new prince. all except one.

the guests were all magic beings and mages of sorts and the distrust between humans and fairies wove itself into the atmosphere of the function like the rose ivy scaling the walls of the grand castle. one individual sliced through the tense ambience with a rageful slam of the dining hall's doors and an accusatory shout that echoed through the spacious room.

yang jeongin of the lee house indicted the king and queen of something much more treacherous than the disregard of his invite, he accused them of murdering his mother and mutilating his lover.

'a tooth for a tooth, and an eye,' the ancient sorcerer had tapped his right eye, recalling the newly formed scar across his lover's own. 'for an eye.'

the king and queen sat in shock just as the rest of the guests and guards, knowing any wrong move could result in the looming war beginning in seconds. as yang jeongin approached the cradle in which the baby lay swaddled in the finest materials, velvet coloured blankets knitted to perfection and laced with gold thread. he stopped and stared before revealing that his objective had already been accomplished by someone else.

the queen implored him to elaborate and yang jeongin explained that someone had already cursed the infant. at this an uproar began.

many heavy accusations were thrown among the guests until the king had simply begged for it to be undone, for his son to be saved. yang jeongin had declared that there was no undoing of the curse, that at the age of sixteen the boy, and the entire castle, would fall into a slumber lasting a hundred years lest the prince's true love break the spell.

the king and queen were devastated and, when no one confessed to committing the crime, announced they would cut all connections with the baby shower's guests as they could not afford to declare war on all the other kingdoms and powerful families.

in the prince's youth he was locked in the castle and spent his days learning the art of magic in hopes of finding a cure to the foreboding curse but alas when midnight struck on his sixteenth birthday the castle was consumed by the briars and roses that once simply decorated its exterior and now inspissated its entirety. all residents of the castle fell into a slumber like death, never heard from again."

"and after the curse settled princes, princesses, nobles, and all the sort quested to break the curse and liberate the prince and castle of briars. so on, so forth. we learned of this as children min, why are you telling me this now?"

"because, your majesty, i am trying to tell an eerie story to frighten you. what better time to do so than while camped outside a haunted castle in the dead of night while laying in front of an open fire?" minho shifted to face the fire, laying on the lush greenery that stretched beyond the horizon that was crowded with deciduous trees in the prime of the vernal equinox.
