"Aleena call on line three."
Who could possibly be calling me right now? It's 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon in the dead of winter.
"Hi, this is Aleena. What can I do for you?"
"Oh my god you sound so professional girl!!!!" I sighed in relief hearing my best friend's voice.
"Shut up. What do you want? Just because I'm at work doesn't mean you can't call my cell."
"I wanted to hear your proper big-girl-job voice." I rolled my eyes. "Anyways, your absolute best friend just scored the most amazing gift. Guess what it is?"
"You're going to leave me alone? Unlimited wine? Starbucks for life???"
"Better. Two court-side seats for the Warriors' game."
"No you didn't." I've been watching the NBA since I was a little girl.
"Imagine it now Aleena. Hunter Thompson catching the ball, dripping sweat, and seeing you in the smallest garment you own. He's going to be inches from you. Inches! I'm going to pick you up at 6:30pm sharp for the 7:30 tip off."
Before I could protest, the line went dead. I peaked my head outside of my dusty cubicle to see if anyone had eavesdropped on my less than appropriate use of work time. The middle aged men barely even glanced back. I can't lose my first proper job out of college.
My leg nervously shook for the remaining two hours at work. I spent more time mentally browsing my closet than doing my actual job.
After work, I drove to my quaint studio apartment. My choices were between a black faux leather jumpsuit and a red satin dress. Both still had their tags on them; Bella bought them for me. I usually stick to modest clothing and muted colors. At times, blending in is much easier for me than standing out. I quickly sent a text to Bella.
"Black jumpsuit or red satin?" -6:11
"Red. Be over in 15 min." -6:14
One deep breath and on the red garment slid.
I stared at myself in the mirror. Don't get your hopes up Aleena. Hunter is a professional basketball player and you're just a copy editor.
