It's been 10 years and I still don't know how chewed up parts of her were found. Perhaps I was too little to understand and so my mind compensated. Were my parents really so naive to believe some wild dogs were to blame? I can still remember the nightmares I had conjured up when alone and frightful of my sister's inevitable fate. I was by myself as I followed the low hum of a creature so large and so dark I did not believe it was real. It walked on all fours even if it seemed unnatural, it was skinny with an obvious sense of strength. The face of the creature was unavailable at night as its skin was as dark as the sky in the countryside, the only features noticeable were its piercing blue eyes and beautifully white fangs, fangs that surveyed around the entirety of its mouth so perfectly it was as if it had been painted. I came from around the tree, allowing myself to observe this black beauty even though I was terrified and unaware of the dangers it brought forth.

I sent my lungs ablaze as I realized the blood flowing from my sister's body, her lifeless stare and tearless eyes urging me to run, but I couldn't. Now I understood this was not another beautiful creature from deep within the forest, but something evil. Fearfulness washed over as I realized I too was going to fall victim to the large fangs penetrating the sides of my torso. The searing, boiling pain of my blood is too much to handle as this thing tries to encase me in its mouth as it seeks to engulf my being with one swift swallow. I allowed it to continue, as I fell further into lifelessness, paralyzed, unaware of the danger I had allowed myself to fall into. I screamed once again wishing for someone to follow my cry and save me and the very little life I had left, I am surrendering to the pain. The clenching of its jaw has lessened, maybe to watch me bleed out in enjoyment or maybe out of tiredness, I looked down to allow the smallest amount of sadness to creep in. My home, the one I had lived in for the entirety of my life, the one my father, mother and brother were all sleeping soundly within. All too soon this reality was disregarded as my sister's limp body lay on the cold ground below.

As my teeth begin to clench and my face grows hot, I feel my heart race, my gut wrench and my mind shut down. This will not be the end, and I scream one last time till there is no breath left inside my poor quivering lungs, I have fallen to the ground with this creature's grip gone. I brace for the end as I clench the sides where I had been attacked, I reach for my sister's hand and squeeze it so tightly.

I know we will not survive this and this will be the last memory we have together, she is my everything and all at once I realized the creature was gone and with it, my sister.
