POV ???

I walked back to my truck and grabbed my GPS, powering the hand held device on and allowing it to calibrate accordingly. As it took it's time to load, I grabbed changed out my equipment bag and grabbed the proper supplies I would need to capture the wolf in a relatively safe way. I opened the back of the truck up and unlocked the large cage in the back with stainless steel walls and a double door system.

The alarm on the GPS sounded letting me know that it was ready for use, so I strapped my backpack on and loaded my dart gun. It threw the strap of the gun over my shoulder, ready for use, and followed the GPS, showing me exactly where the wolf was, or at least where he had lost the dart.

As I trudged through the rough forestry I intermittently check the GPS to ensure I was going the correct way. Once I was ten meters from the point of interest I clipped the GPS onto my belt and pulled out the gun. I stalked closer to the area and found the small cave the wolf had sought out for shelter, his light coloured fur giving away his location. I placed the gun at the entrance, within reachable distance and grabbed a snare pole from my backpack, along with a muzzle appropriate for this size of the wolf. I maneuvered the loop around the animal's nose and started to move it back, moving extremely slow. Once the snare was secured around the animal's neck, I reached in and attempted to muzzle the beast before me.

As I locked the muzzle in place the wolf's eyes shot open and looked at me, shocked that I was so close to it. A low rumble started to emit from the wolf. I quickly backed out of the cave and grabbed the gun, ready to shoot the wolf again to ensure my safety.

I backed a couple of feet back, training my eye on him. As I waited nervously, a twig in the distance caught my attention.

We weren't alone anymore.

I moved the gun to face that direction and tried to survey the area. What I saw in the distance was a pack of dark coloured wolves begin to emerge, their hackles raised and giving off a low growl. I glanced at the entrance of the cave and noticed the white wolf had not left yet but was on edge. Clearly distressed at the appearance of the pack.

I knew that I could not take on all these wolves on my own, so I shot off one of the darts in the distance to catch the pack's attention before running back down the trail towards the truck. As I ran I could hear howls behind me followed by barks. As the white exterior of my vehicle came into my vision of sight, I aimed for the back of the truck, where the vehicle was open; the cage. I dove into the cage, closing the doors behind me without a second to spare. The large animals started growling and attempting to dig their way into the kennel. I watched from the small openings in the cage the pack circle my vehicle before one of them found the bucket of bait remaining by the vehicle, dragging the meat out. The pack slowly joined the other wolf in eating the fresh meat, but the large black wolf stayed close to the truck, hackles raised, keeping eye contact with me.

Luckily I still had my radio attached to my belt, I pulled it out and hit the button allowing for my message to be received,

"This Dr. J. Erickson requesting immediate back up to site #7156387, I have a Code Red. I am currently surrounded by eight wolves, I am trapped inside the cage in the back of the truck with supply pack C and five darts remaining on my person. Over." The radio hissed as I ended the transmission with a beep.

"Copy, deploying unit #713 and #936 to your location. Please remain calm and in your current location. The other units should arrive in twenty minutes. Over" The radio hissed back at me.

I looked around, placing the radio in my lap. I checked my gun to ensure it was loaded properly and trained in on the wolf closest to the cage. We entered a starring contest, only interrupted minutes later by the sound of two vehicles driving up to my rig. The wolves knew they were outmatched by the sight of two men on the back of each rig, guns trained on the pack. They started to retreat into the forest. I carefully before the others hoped out of their vehicles to assist me.

I handed my key for the cage through the hole so they could let me out.

"There's a wolf up there with a loop around his neck and a muzzle on," I informed the others, relief apparent in my voice. The other officers nodded in acknowledgment. I looked at the officer in command.

"If he woke up after a full dart that quickly, I doubt he's still there. We'll need to monitor the forest and do sweeps for any sign of it, but I doubt we'll find it now." Said the charge officer.

"Ok, I can assist with that, but I'll need to get my partner before then," I said, loading my equipment in my truck.

"We can't dart it without at vet present, so I guess we'll await your return to sweep the area."

"Okay, I will come back as soon as I can," I said, jumping into the driver's seat, grabbing my radio.

"This is Dr. J. Erickson. Please contact A. Jackson for an assist. I am on route to base in unit #217. Please prep replenish supplies for bait, traps, and supply pack C. Over."

"Copy. We will have supplies ready for your arrival. A. Jackson is on route to base. Over." Said the dispatcher with a monotone voice.

I started my truck and drove back up the dirt road towards the base. This was going to be one hell of a night tracking that animal without getting mauled by a pack of wolves. By the construction worker's complaints, the pack must not have been in this location long, even so, we would likely have to relocate them as well. I could not get over the cold blue eyes of the white wolf, and the bright amber eyes that had watched over me so intensely.
