A/N: okay this is based almost 100% upon the song My Kind of Perfect by David Archuleta because lately I've been listening to his music on repeat and this song is just too cute

I was thinking about ya

I drew a little picture

But some things you can't put on paper

Y/N spent far too much time dreaming of her soulmate. Who it would be, she hadn't the faintest idea, but the thrill of knowing he was out there somewhere was sometimes all she could think about.

She had turned 17 just a few weeks ago, marking the beginning of her journey to find the one she was destined to be with. But destiny had a funny way of working on its own timeline.

She dreamed of all the most romantic ways to meet him. She imagined herself spotting him from across the courtyard, the eye contact enough to know it was him. She imagined bumping into him in the great hall and being invited to share a meal together. She even imagined what it would be like for it to be one of her friends. She knew them well and loved them well, it wouldn't be out of the question.

But no matter what she imagined, she could never be sure when the moment would come.

I know, I know, she's gotta be out there, out there

I know I know she's gotta be...

Draco Malfoy had a hard outer shell that was tough to get through. He watched as his friends were matched, finding their soulmates. Finding their happiness. And while his happiness wasn't purely tied to romance, the idea of finding his match was exhilarating.

As each of his companions linked with their soulmate, he continued losing hope that his own perfect match was out there. He knew that some people were meant to live their lives without the match, but he didn't think he could do it. Not when so much of his life was devoid of the kind of love and attention he craved.

Maybe I'm wrong

Maybe I'm right

Maybe I just let you walk by

What can I say

Maybe I've known you all my life

Walking the halls of school were some of the most invigorating and terrifying moments of each day. It was impossible to know when someone is walking right next to their soulmate. Impossible to know when their soulmate walked right past them, hurrying to their next class.

Every person dreamed of the day they would meet their perfect match. Until they reached the proper age, there was no need to worry, no need to look out for them. Maybe their soulmate wasn't of age yet. Maybe they had never even been exposed to them before. Maybe they've known them forever.

It's gonna be worth it

Cause that's what love is

I'll keep searching for my kind of perfect

"Y/N, are you okay? You're not thinking about soulmates again, are you?" Ginny Weasley claimed the seat next to her on the sofa in the Gryffindor common room. Y/N had been sitting, daydreaming, staring into the roaring fireplace.

"No, of course not." She replied, not even beginning to attempt to hide the truth. She turned to look at Ginny, seeking any form of reassurance. "You do think he's out there, right?"

Ginny took Y/N's hand into her own and looked her straight in the eyes. "If there is anyone I know who deserves this, who deserves to find their soulmate, it's you. You love them before you know them. That's something I can't even imagine." She attempted to console her friend.

"It's not like it's the end of the world. I know it's not. But this is something I've dreamed about since I was little. It's just a lot harder to wait than I thought it would be."

"So go out there and look for him. You haven't found him by sitting here, so maybe he's somewhere out there." Ginny gestured toward the rest of the castle.

Y/N nodded, "I guess a nice walk would be good for me, anyway. Thanks Gin." She stood up and made her way out into the stairwell.

They say give it time

Give it time, and it will fall in line

But I keep wondering how and when

And why I haven't met you

"Draco, you're not going to find your soulmate by pouting in the common room. If she was a Slytherin, I think you'd have found her by now, mate." Blaise strode into the room, his soulmate draped under his arm. He leaned over the back of the sofa, his face only a foot from Draco's head as he stared directly into the blinding flames of the fireplace.

"I'm not pouting, Zabini." Draco whipped his head around to look at his friend. "And I'll find her when the time is right. In here or out there." He pointed out toward the corridor, knowing that his soulmate may very well be in another house, another part of the castle, hidden away from him. The stubborn boy did not enjoy the looks of pity that were sent his way.

But despite not wanting to admit that Blaise had a point, he stood up abruptly and walked toward the door. "I'm going for a walk. How about that?" He turned and opened the door.

Before he was out of earshot, he heard Blaise call after him, "tell your soulmate I say hello when you meet her."

Is she the one? Is it today?

Will I turn the corner

See my future in a beautiful face

Maybe

Y/N descended the many staircases and emerged into the corridor surrounding the courtyard. She breathed in a lungful of fresh air, glad for her decision to take a walk, even just to clear her mind. She found a bench along the wall and took a seat, admiring the beautiful weather and the joy that so many students exhibited around her. She knew she was surrounded by students and their soulmates, but she tried not to let it get under her skin.

As a stubborn Draco made his way toward the courtyard, he couldn't help but keep his eyes wandering from person to person, wondering when that feeling would come. The one he had heard so much about, but had yet to experience for himself.

He walked around the courtyard, gazing longingly at the couples he recognized as already finding their match. He looked away, refusing to dwell on the issue. This was not a pity walk, this was a clear-his-mind walk.

I'll keep searching for my kind of perfect

Draco turned the corner to walk along the other side of the courtyard, but he didn't make it far before his feet stopped his motion. He stood still, unable to take his eyes off of the sight before him.

His heart beat faster, his body felt light and airy. His mouth was dry, he felt nervous yet overwhelmingly calm at the same time. Like it was the most important moment in his life, yet the easiest and most natural.

Y/N looked over at the boy who had apparently taken an interest in her since she sat down. When their eyes met, she knew. That feeling she had heard so much about, the one where you know that everything is right, where you can feel nothing but joy and love. Where the rest of the world seems to freeze as if this moment is the only one that matters. It was happening.

Draco wordlessly approached the bench, too enamored to say anything to the girl. He whispered under his breath, "my god, you're perfect."

And although he hadn't intended for her to hear, she smiled shyly up at him and replied, "I'm far from it, actually." A slight chuckle escaped her lips.

"I could say the same, but you're my kind of perfect."
