george was always afraid of moving. he would be away from his friends, his family, his home. then, when his father was proposed with a promotion that was only available in america, george's fears came true. as soon as his freshman year ended, they would move and george would spend his high school years in a small town in texas.
"mom, do we have to go," he would ask his mom multiple times before they left. the answer was always the same. "yes, georgie. I promise you'll love it in america though." and now, here george was, sitting in a window seat on the plane to houston. when the arrived, the jet lag hit hard. he missed the first day of school, even. but the next day, his mother woke him up at nearly the crack of dawn.
"george, honey, it's time for school. you missed the first day," she said, poking her head from behind the door. george sat up, his eyelids heavy. he nodded at his mother to tell her he was awake. he stood up out of bed when she left and walked to his closet.
almost immediately, he picked up his favorite sweater and some sweatpants. he was too tired to dress up. besides, it was just school. he only had to look somewhat presentable, not like he's getting married.
after fixing himself up in the bathroom, he slipped on a pair of light blue vans that he had painted on to seal the deal. he looked okay for someone who just arrived in america a couple days ago.
"mom, im ready!"
....
after arriving at school, george noticed how small it was. there were no schools as small as this in brittain. it was really underwhelming to say the least. he sighed and followed his mother to the office.
the lady at the desk was nice. she helped george find his classroom, and told him what supplies he needed as if he didn't already have everything.
upon arriving into the classroom, everyone stopped and stared up at him. he suddenly felt nervous and embarrassed, like he spilt his drink all over himself and slipped in it. then, the teacher came up to him. "oh, what do we have here? is this the new student i've heard so much about? pleasure meeting you, im mr. watson. but you can call me phil. everyone else does." george was surprised by this teacher. why was he so casual? wasn't he gonna get in trouble for letting students call him by his first name? american schools confused him so much. "hi. im george. I moved here from brittain." mr. watson clicked his tongue. "that's right! I was told you'd come from another country. I was worried it was gonna be, like, japan or something, ya know? i don't know any other languages besides Spanish and English, so we'd have a pretty difficult time teaching you, ya know?" georgejust stood there while the teacher rambled. he looked around the classroom and noticed everyone had started to whisper and send him glances. all but two people. a tall boy with dirty blonde hair, and a boy about the same height as george with black hair. the boy with the black hair just smiled at george with a goofy smile and waved. george waved back, smiling at how much of a dork this boy already seemed to be. "anyway, i see you're not even listening because you're flirting with nick, so ill let you take your seat anywhere is fine." mr. watson gave george a pat on the back and went back to his desk.
george looked around for a seat, only for the tall boy and the goofy boy to spring up and walk over to him. "hey man! sorry about watson. I deffo wasn't flirting with you." the boy winked, and nudged him. george was confused if the wink meant he was being sarcastic and was flirting with him, or he just had some weird turrets going on. "im nick by the way." george smiled at nick, already liking him. he was funny, dorky, and seems like someone who could brighten up the whole room just by walking in. then, the tall boy introduced himself. "im clay. everyone calls me dream though. don't know why." his voice was nice. he looked intimidating, like a rugged football jock, but his eyes and the freckles that dusted his cheeks made him seem welcoming. like a gentle giant. someone who just wants to love everything, but their looks scares them away. george liked them. "we heard you're from brittain. that's like, so fricking poggers, dude. I would love to get out of the country when I'm older. ya know, when I get money. just to like, get away from my family." nick stated, bumping elbows with clay. "huh- oh, yeah. sorry, I spaced out." nick smiled and said it was okay. "let's go sit. there's a spot at our table right next to karl and darryl. they're pretty cool, too."
nick led george over to the table, where a boy in an oversized striped shirt and a boy with a light blue hoodie and glasses sat. "karl, darryl, this is the new kid. george." nick introduced. karl smiled and waved, while darryl looked up from his computer to give george a sweet smile before going back to what he was doing. there was a boy next to darryl, his skin was darker with black fluffy hair, intently watching what the boy in the glasses was doing. "zak, when did you get here?" clay asked, sitting down. "nothing, bbh just wanted to show me something." george looked at the boy, confused. "bbh?" he asked him. "it's darryl's nickname. we call him that because it's an acronym for his name on minecraft. badboyhalo." nick informed him, george nodded his head in understandment. zak just nodded and went back to watching darryl. "YES! I DID IT!" darryl cheered, startling everyone. george looked at darryl, furrowing his brow. "I just speedran duck life. feeling good, muffinheads!" zak clapped happily. "good job! I knew you could do it!" darryl then sighed and flopped over sideways into zak. george laughed, and everyone else joined in.
after they calmed down, class was almost over when nick pulled george and clay aside. "okay, listen. the plan is happening tonight. george, I need your adress." george shrugged. "i mean, sure, but ill have to let my parents know that you're coming ov-" "NO-" nick intterupted.
"no. we're gonna sneak in."
