YOU'RE WELCOME IN ADVANCE!!! ITS SO SHORT IM SORRY I DONT REMEMBER IT BEING THIS SHORT!!

Eve's POV:

The entire next day was spent preparing for the proposal behind everyone's back. We still managed to keep the entire thing a secret. We did, however, have a few close calls. Harry asked me a few times throughout the day why I was being weird, and Clare definitely knew something was up, but the day still went smoothly. But none of that would compare to how stressed Mitch was that night.

"Mitch, don't make me get Harry." I warned him from behind the closed door.

"Relax, I'm just tying my shoes." he says, making an excuse.

"You've done that three times already. She's not going to say no, Mitch." I reassure him. He opens the door and walks out, tightening his tie.

"I sure hope not." he says before walking out on the back patio. Waiting for him is a nicely decorated table with an italian meal, flowers, and candles. Sarah comes walking out in a nice dress and her hair pulled back, confused on what's going on.

"I was told to wear something nice?" she confirms with me. I give her a nod and lead her to her seat, opposite of Mitch.

"Let me know if you need anything." I tell them before walking back into the kitchen where Clare, Evan, and Harry are waiting.

"What are they up to?" Harry asks, slightly offended that he isn't in the loop.

"You'll find out soon." I tell him, giving him a smirk to let him know that something is going to happen soon.

We wait for the couple to finish their meal before bringing out desert. The group speculates what's happening, mainly that it's just a romantic dinner, that is until they reach dessert. Mitch starts to squirm, obviously nervous. I get a few glances from Harry as he draws closer to the idea of what's happening.

All of a sudden Mitch pulls out his phone and starts playing music, which wasn't part of the plan. He plays "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran. Mitch gets up from the table and reaches out his hand for Sarah. She smiles and takes his hand, being pulled up close to him. They sway back and forth, gazing into each other's eyes.

They looked perfectly in love. The two of them in my mind are already married. Their love is that strong. It's the most perfect, innocent love I've ever seen. Soulmates.

As they dance I find myself looking over at Harry, who is already looking back at me. A shock of electricity goes through me as he looks away, my eyes remaining on him. The spell is broken when I feel Evan's arm wrap around me, and for a split second I wished he wasn't there. For a split second I wish we had never met. For a split second I wish he never came back to my apartment after he stood me up. But after that second passes I feel guilty, weak. Like I am stuck at a crossroads.

It's daunting being with someone just to get over the other. It's the exact feeling you were trying to avoid. I turn back to Harry one last time, before resting my head on Evan's shoulder. I can feel Harry's eyes on us, and it takes everything in me from looking back at him once more.

After a few minutes the song ends and Mitch whispers something in Sarah's ear before getting down on one knee. At this point Sarah is in tears and looks at him in disbelief.

"Sarah Jones, the love of my life, and the sickest drummer on the planet, will you marry me?" he asks, and Sarah immediately nods her head yes, pulling him up into a hug. The rest of us immediately run outside to where they are and pull them into a group hug. Evan takes pictures of them, capturing the special moment.

We all back away as he takes the ring out of the box and slides it onto Sarah's finger. "Mrs. Rowland." she whispers as she looks back up at Mitch.

We all head back inside, leaving the two of them alone to spend time as an engaged couple. Harry and I keep making eye contact, mainly because we both thought that we could've had something like they did.

It isn't long before Evan pulls me aside from the group. His face is serious, and a little heartbroken, giving me a clue on how this is going to go. He leads me out onto the front porch, passing his already packed bags.

Neither of us know what to say. We both got into this situation knowing that my past would play a major role in my future, but somehow we both thought that we could ignore it.

"You still love him, don't you." he asks, breaking the silence.

"I don't know." I respond, not thinking he would be so blunt.

"I can see it. You never got over him, Eve." he says.

"I really thought I did." I tell him honestly.

"I don't think you ever did. It's not your fault, the heart doesn't get to pick who we fall in love with." He explains. "It just does."

"I'm so sorry." I apologize, not knowing what more I can say. "Good luck, Eve." he says. "You too." I tell him before he puts his bags in his car.

He gives me a final wave goodbye before he pulls out of the driveway and heads home. I stay there on the front porch in the cold, not knowing where to go from here. I should be happy, two of my best friends just got engaged. I should be in there with them celebrating, but instead I'm sitting here on the cold brick wondering what my options are. I could either follow my heart and see where that takes me, or I could follow my head and make logical decisions. Both options are reasonable, but I know neither one of them are safe.
