Six Months Later, October 1985
"Can anyone tell me why he jumped to such a rash action after finding Juliet dead?" I heard my teacher's voice floating in from my dreams.
"Because Romeo's an idiot" Someone said, the class laughed as I slowly picked my head up to make it seem like I wasn't asleep.
"Ha ha." Our teacher responded dryly, obviously unimpressed, "No! It's because he wants to avoid being hurt. He wants to avoid the grief and loss of losing his love!"
"Didn't they just meet like three days ago?" I whispered to Ashley, who nodded with a look that just screamed 'can you believe this?'.
I put my head back down on the desk, my eyes felt heavy as lead. I didn't really care if the teacher saw me anymore, I clearly fell asleep earlier, even if I didn't quite realize it.
The bell rang out to signal the end of class. I sat bolt upright, startling awake fully. I turn to Ashley and she gave me a snort of a laugh, unsticking a piece of notebook paper from my face.
Only mildly embarrassing yourself in front of your girlfriend, yeah that's definitely the way to go. The initial weirdness of being an actual couple had dissipated, but my constant weirdness had not, I think she must find it kind of charming though.
"What time is it?" I muttered, looking at the piece of paper. It only said my class and my name, not really anything worth keeping. I rubbed my eyes and tried to run a hand through my hair to settle the curls that fell messily to my shoulders, but they refused.
Ashley slid her bag on and joked, "It's time for you to quit sleeping during class."
"Hey, who said I was asleep? Maybe I was just listening really closely." I crumpled and tossed my paper into the trash can before grabbing my bag and stepping out into the hall with Ash.
She simply looked back at me and scoffed, "Yeah, sure you were." She fell back onto me and looked up with a loud, overly dramatic snore.
"Okay you got me, I fell asleep as soon as the lesson started." I laughed and pulled my arm up around her shoulders as we walked down the stairs to the first floor.
"Did you know that you make a great arm rest? Keep up the good work and maybe you'll be a pro some day." I smirked and caught her rolling her eyes at me.
"You're such a goof, you know that right?" She moved out from under my arm to look at me more directly. There was a slight blush in her cheeks, she definitely digs the weirdness.
I stopped walking and made a production out of bowing to her, "I live to entertain, ma'am."
Ashley finally laughed aloud. She came over and grabbed my still outstretched hand and pulled me along towards our classes. "C'mon you're gonna make people stare." She sounded only somewhat embarrassed, but she couldn't hide the smile on her face.
I groaned, "How about we just skip class?"
She turned back to me in shock, "Okay am I dreaming right now? What has gotten into you today?"
I shrugged, "I don't really know, I've just got a feeling that something's gonna happen today, but it's not a good one."
Her expression became a lot less joyful, but she shook it off, "You're probably just tired, I mean at least enough to fall asleep during class."
"Yeah, you're right, that's probably it." I smiled at her, trying to ease her worries. And she probably is right, it's been a while since I've actually been able to get a good night's sleep.
