"But aunt Devin!" I whine to her.

"I said no and that's final! So drop it" my Mother tells me with her strict voice.

"Ugh! This isn't fair! You can't keep me locked up in this house forever mother!!" I yell at her before I stomp my way upstairs towards my room. I slam my door really hard, almost making the house shake. I cringe cause I know that my aunt Devin will storm up here and have a fit. Which didn't take long.

3.......2.......1...........

"PHOENIX MARIA ROSE!" Yells aunt Devin.

Oh boy......I've done it now.

"HOW DARE YOU SLAM YOUR BEDROOM DOOR LIKE THTA???!" She asked. Before I could even say anything, she continued.

"WHY DON'T YOU SLAM IT HARDER! SINCE IT WASN'T HARD ENOUGH THE FIRST TIME!!" She says sarcastically.

Aunt Devin sees that I am in a verge of tear and stops herself. She takes a few deep breaths before coming up to me and hug me. I hug her back, allowing a few tears escape.

"I'm sorry for yelling at you dear. I didn't mean to scare you like that" aunt Devin tells me calmly.

"It's okay.....I kinda deserved it" I tell her.

She pulls me away and looks at me in my eyes. She has a concerned look on her face.......oh boy. I know that look. Here comes another lecture. She lets out a sigh before she looks back at me into my eyes and begins to talk.

"Its not like I don't want you to go to America and study medicine.....but its not safe for you to leave London" Aunt Devin explains.

I take her hand into mine and I look at her in her eyes. I give her a small smile. She looks at me worryingly, but soon calms down a bit.

"Aunty.....I swear I'll be careful. I know you're scared for my safety but.....I have to do this. I can't be cooped up in this house for much longer. I have go out in the real world and explore my options. I want to meet new people, see new things!" I tell her.

She looks at me some more, studying my eyes before she finally opened her mouth.

"Okay then.....you can go———"

I didn't allow her to finish her sentence as I screamed out in excited. Aunt Devin started to laugh when I got up from the couch and started to jump up and down and clapping my hands out of excitement.

"I'll go and book a flight!!" I tell her.

"Hold on dear. You didn't even apply to the medical school at Chicago. You can't buy a plane ticket if you didn't get into the school yet. " Aunt Devin reminds me.

I stand there all awkward, forgetting to tell her the one important thing........

"Uhhh well......I kinda....sorta.....alreadyappliedtoamedicalschoolinchicago" I say it all at once.

"What was that? I didn't catch that honey" my aunt tells me.

I take a deep breath in and let out before I come out and say it.

"I already applied to a medical school in Chicago......." I tell her slowly.

She just looks at me astonished for a few seconds before she cleared her throat.

"Okay then......that I wasn't expecting I quickly. But it is what it is," she says with a smile.

I give her a small smile as I run up to her and give her a great big hug.

"Thank you" I whisper to her ear. I then run upstairs to my room and I begin to book my one way ticket to Chicago and pack my stuff.

Two week later:

It's been two weeks since I convinced my aunt to allow me to go study abroad. I had packed everything and I rented an apartment in downtown Chicago. I am ready to start a new chapter in my life.

Now we are standing at the airport as I checked my bags and got my ticket printed out. We walk towards the security check line. I turn around and I can see aunt Devins eyes get all glossy.

"Oh no. Don't aunt Devin, or else I'll start to cry and we can't stop crying" I tell her and she lets out a chuckle.

"Gate B-1768 will be boarding in 30 minutes" says the flight attendant on the speaker.

"Well this is it" I tell my aunt Devin with a chuckle. She just looks at me as tears fall down her face. I give her one last hug before I turn around and walk towards the security check in when I heard my aunt call for me.

"Wait!" She calls out. I turn around and ask, "what's wrong?"

She walks up to me and pulls out a beautiful emerald green diamond necklace. That has a blue chain attached to it from its sides.

"Here, I want you to wear this everyday. So you can remember me" my aunt tells me as she puts the necklace around my neck.

I looks down at it and my eyes start to feel glossy. I look back at my aunt and give her a great big hug.

"Thank you! I love it. And I promise you that I will wear it everyday, to remember you" I tell her as a single tear slipped from my eyes.

We give each other one last hug, until I finally pulled myself away from my Aunt Devin and made my way to the security check line.

Well....this is it.......I am finally going to be in the real world........

What can possibly go wrong?
