Chapter 1: The New Man

The bright, sunny, and shinning sun lightens the city of Beverly Hills. Summers over and the final school year is coming, Esme just turned 17 in July for what she seems to be is already old. "Morning mother" Esme says, "Morning honey" says Rebecca. Rebecca was diagnosed with cancer in 1983, the doctors say she doesn't have much time left, Esme believes it's a hoax, she thinks it can be treated, but the longer her mother is battling cancer the more she feels weak and could no longer stand. "How do you feel about your Senior year of High School" Rebecca says to Esme, "umm... I'm not sure, I mean it's my last year and then I'm off to college, I don't know what I should be feeling.. should I be feeling sad or happy" she says in a chuckling matter, "well it's your final year before college, so a little bit of both" Rebecca responds; Esme gives a smirk look to her mother, "How are you feeling" she says in a worried voice, Rebecca takes a deep breath "I've been better, but don't worry about me too much sweetie ok.. I don't want you to have a lot of pressure, it worries me more than you worry about me love," says Rebecca, "I know.. but.. I'm just worried about you, especially with your cancer growing. I don't want you to feel worse," Esme responds, "I'm going to be okay love, don't worry about me, right now I want you to focus on school especially since it's your final year. I'm going to be ok.. alright!" Rebecca says, "Ok mom, I love you" Esme hugs her mother, "I love you too sweetie" Rebecca says. It's the first day of school, Esme feels a bit nervous but excitement at the same time. "BOO" Kate comes up behind and scares Esme making her jump, "Oh my gosh you scared me Kate, don't do that" Esme responds, "I'm sorry hun, but Hey" Kate says in a laughing matter as she spreads her arms and gives Esme a hug, "So can you believe it, were finally seniors" Esme says, "I know right, feels like yesterday we were freshmen" Kate says. Another girl waves and starts running up to Esme and Kate, "Oh my gosh.. hey,  ugh feels like forever since I last saw you both" says Sarah, Sarah is Esme and Kate's friend, The three have been best friends since sixth grade, "Oh my gosh heyy girll" says Kate, all three give each other a group hug, "So how was y'all's summer" Esme says, "Mmm.. mine was ok" says Kate, "Mine was amazing, my family and I went to Miami for the summer and there were some pretty hot guys there" says Sarah, Esme and Kate laugh. The girls enter the school and head to Esme's locker, "So Esme what's up with you and Daniel" says Sarah as she looks over at Daniel from the other side behind them, seeing Daniel looking over at Esme, "What do you mean what's going on, we broke up junior year" says Esme, Daniel and Esme dated their Junior year of high school and broke up on the last month of Junior year. "Oh ok.. but I'm guessing he still has feelings for you" says Sarah, "What.. what do you mean, I broke up with him. He should learn to get over it, just saying" Esme says, "Well I'm guessing he hasn't since he keeps looking over here" says Kate, "What" says Esme as Sarah and Kate put their arms on Esme shoulder and turn her over facing Daniel, Esme gives a slight smirk and a little wave; Daniel looks over and closes his locker and walks away without any expressions back to Esme. "Oh my gosh rude" says Kate, "It's alright guys, he's just you know.. going through the breakup phase" says Esme as she looks a bit sad as she begins to collect her books for her class, "It's ok girl, don't worry about it, you broke up with him and he needs to understand that you need to move on" says Sarah as she's comforting Esme. Esme gives a little smile as Sarah's words comfort her, the school bell rings and it's time for the girls to head to their first period class, "Well I'll see you all at lunch" says Sarah as she gives Esme and Kate a blowing kiss and starts to walk to her class, "Ok bye.. so you later" Esme and Kate say, they both begin to walk to class and a friend of theirs comes up from behind and starts walking with Esme and Kate, "Hey guys" says Hope, "Hey hope" says  Kate and Esme, "So did you guys see the new guy here" says Hope, "What guy" says Esme, "Oh my gosh, I don't even know where to begin but he's so hot" says Hope, "Mm I'm sure he is" says Kate as she gives a sarcastic and funny reply, "He is, he's so cute.. well I'll see you guys later, bye" says Hope as she walks away to her class, "Bye" says Esme and Kate, "So.. what do you think this new guy looks like" says Kate, "I don't know.. but we'll find out later" says Esme as she and Kate walk separate ways to their class. Esme enters her English class, she walks around to find an empty seat and finds one, as she begins to approach the empty seat she slightly puts her hand on the chair and a person bumps into her, "Oh my gosh" Esme says, she looks down and slowly starts looking up, "I am so sorry, I found this empty seat and didn't realize where I was looking" says a man as he apologizes for bumping into Esme. "It's ok you can have it" says Esme, "No.. no, you can have it, there's an empty seat right over there I'll just take that, here you can have it" says the man as he pulls the chair out from the desk and slowly asks Esme to sit, what a gentleman thinks Esme. "Thank you..." says Esme as she sits down, "My pleasure"says the man as he gives Esme a smile back. Wow, who is this guy, he's so charming, his bright light blue eyes and curly browned hair probably six feet tall somewhere there; a beautiful smile that enlightens his entire face, Esme thinks to herself. English is finally over and Esme picks up her books and begins to make her way out. Out in the hallway Esme is touched on the shoulder from behind "Hey" the man says as Esme slightly turns around, "Hey" she responds, "Sorry about that bump earlier in class, I wasn't looking at where I was going" he says, "No.. No, it's ok it's not your fault, it was just an accident really, no need to apologize" Esme reply's, as they both walk together talking, The man stop's in the middle of the hallway and gets in front of Esme, "I didn't get to formally introduce myself, how rude of me.. I'm Erik.. Erik Menendez" he says as he pulls his hand out to shake Esme's, "Hi Erik, I'm Esme.. Esme Carter" she replies as she pulls her hand to shake his. "That's a very beautiful name" Erik says with a smile on his face, "Thank you" Esme replies with a smile, they continue to walk while talking "I'm new here, I just recently moved a couple of weeks ago" Erik says, "Oh.. well welcome to Beverly Hills Erik" Esme reply's, "Thank you" Erik says, "So where you from Erik" Esme says, "I'm from New Jersey" Erik reply's, "Oh New Jersey, sounds nice" Esme says, "Yea it's cool, I've lived there basically since I was a year old" says Erik, "Oh wow really, do you miss it" says Esme, "Yea I do, most of my family lives there, so I kind of miss them.. but my family moved here so I think I'll get used to it" says Erik, the bell rings for the next class, "Oh well there goes the bell, I'll see you later Erik" says Esme, "Ok yea, see you later Esme" says Erik. The day goes by a few hours and now it's lunch time, Esme looks around to find her friends and sees Kate, she approaches her, "Hey Kate" says Esme, "Hey Esme" reply's Kate "So hows your first day going" says Esme "It's going good so far, how about you" says Kate, "It's going good too, I just met this new guy" says Esme "Oh my god really.. is he cute" says Kate in a romantic way, "Ehh he's alright, but I don't prefer to see him cute in a way, but he seems like a nice guy he moved here from New Jersey" says Esme, "Oh wow really, that's nice.. I'm going to have to see what this guy looks like" Kate says as she laughs. Esme and Kate head over to an empty table in the Cafeteria, Sarah comes in and places her bag down on the floor as she sits down on the table. "Hey lovely's" says Sarah "Hey girl" says Esme and Kate, "So hows everyone doing" Sarah says with a smile on her face, "Good" Esme and Kate reply, "So.. have you guys heard about the bonfire tonight, we should definitely go" says Sarah as she pulls out a flyer with the word Bonfire. "Oh my god, I completely forgot about that" says Esme, "What.. what do you mean forgot, no this is what we do every year since like Freshman year, you guys have to go it's going to be fun" says Sarah as she encourages Esme and Kate to attend the Bonfire, "I'll go, I got nothing to do and it is a Bonfire so it would be very fun" says Kate, "Esme" says Sarah as she gives a concerning look to Esme to wonder if Esme is going to attend the Bonfire, "Mmm.. I don't know, I'll have to think about it" Esme says, "What do you mean think about it, no you have to go it's going to be fun and also some booze will be there" says Sarah giving a mimicking voice about the booze, "I'll think about it ok, I'll let you know" says Esme. Hope arrives at the table and ask's Esme something, "Hey Esme" says Hope, "Hey Hope how are you" reply's Esme, "I'm good thank you.. hey I was wondering if your brother is here since, you know he finally got out of home school" says Hope, "Yea he's here" reply's Esme, "Ok good, well that's what I just wanted to know, I'll see y'all later" Hope says as she gets up to leave. Kate gives a suspicious look to Esme "So what's up with Hope and your brother" says Kate, "To be honest I don't even know, she's liked him since Steven was a freshman" says Esme, "Oh wow, someone's really in love" says Kate, "Yea I know, even my brother likes her" says Esme. Steven is Esme's younger brother and a Sophomore at Beverly Hills high. Lunch is over and the girls get up to head to their own classes, they say bye to each other, "Remember Esme the Bonfire tonight" says Sarah as she looks over at Esme before leaving, "Don't worry, I said I'll think about it" says Esme, the girls go into their own classes. Schools finally over and Esme is heading to her car outside the school, Erik comes up from behind her, "Hey Esme wait up" says Erik "Oh hey Erik" says Esme, "Hey I just wanted to let you know that if your going to go to that Bonfire everyone's talking about" says Erik, "Oh.. um.. I'm not sure, look Erik I'm sorry to ask but I really need to get home I'll see you later ok" says Esme as she politely dismisses the conversation between her and Erik, "Oh Ok" says Erik, Esme makes her way to her car, "Wait Esme, your bracelet" Esme's bracelet falls from her arm and falls to the ground as Erik picks up her bracelet and try's to give it back but Esme is already in her car and on her way home, Erik takes a look at Esme's bracelet that contains a silver heart with the name Esme carved into it and silver chain, Erik puts the bracelet into his pocket and hopes to return it back to Esme.
