Chapter 6
"I'm pregnant?" I whispered to Dr. Luke, my eyes were wide and I felt my head begin to spin. "I think it's just a stomach bug."
Dr. Luke was a handsome and kind man but right now I didn't particularly like him. "Don't laugh." I scolded, jumping off the exam table I began to dress. Of course I was wearing one of Judd's sweatshirts, I find I enjoyed his clothing more than mine.
"Well, if your concerned because you're unsure of who the father is-"
Spinning around I squared up to the tall man, knowing how ridiculous I looked doing so and I pointed right at his chest. "That. Is. Not. Funny."
It only got more of a chuckle out of him instead of the fear I had intended. The door opened and we both turned to see Rodney walk in, a funny look on his face. "Doc, where is my future wife's pants?"
Blushing hard, I realized I hadn't finished dressing. Quickly, I pulled on my black cotton leggings and sneakers. With one more glance at Dr. Lukas I spoke evenly, "I think it is time for us to find a different Doctor."
Ignoring more laughter and the even more confused look on Rodney's face I went to the check out desk.
"Do you need helping following up with an OB?" The clerk asked nicely and I couldn't help but squirm. This seemed all too real.
"Yes." I whispered and leaned in, "Can I call you later about that?"
A glance to my left told me that Rodney had approached. The clerk giggled and nodded, handing me my after visit summary so I can be on my way.
"So, stomach bug was it?" Rodney lifted me into his single cab pickup once we got out to the parking lot.
Not looking at him, I nodded. "Yes. 24 hours." More like eighteen years. "It's not contagious or anything." I added.
"Oh good, I'd hate to skip out on some kisses for the next day." His lips suddenly attacked my neck and up my cheek causing me to laugh loudly.
"Stop. Stop!" I giggled, grabbing a hold of his large hands. "You're evil."
He acted offended as he finished buckling me in, giving me one last kiss on the mouth. "Judd's evil. Not me."The ride home from town wasn't long but it sure felt like it. I couldn't believe I had a little baby growing in my bell. A little Harwin baby.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I told the men. I'd hope they would be happy but I couldn't help but have my doubts. We didn't speak about babies which seemed silly compared to the amount of unprotected sex we had.
"Willa.." Rodney's soft voice cut through my thoughts and I looked up at him. We had pulled into the driveway and parked in front of the house. I hadn't even noticed.
This man could see right through me.
"When you're ready, you can tell us."
With that he exited the truck and came around to help me out. With one last kiss he headed off to the barn to start evening chores.
With my thoughts occupying my time I decided on an easy dinner. As I diced the tomatoes for the pasta dish I got to thinking how nice it was going to be with a little kid running around. I'd be called mom, or even better, mama. Yes, definitely mama.
"Mhhh, this smells good." Judd's voice rumbled throughout the kitchen. He never failed to be loud and powerful with everything he did. "And doesn't my baby look good."
He hugged me from behind, making sure he made me aware of his arousal as it grinded against me. "You feelin' better?"
I nodded, my head dropping back onto his shoulder.
"What'd the doctor say?"
I wasn't sure what to say. Rodney told me without telling me that he already knew. He also promised that I don't have to say anything until I am ready.
Was I ready?
"Not much.." I smiled, "Although Dr. Luke has horrible jokes. He isn't very funny."
Judd laughed at my comment, knowing I loved every person in Lacey's family. When dinner finally came around I was a bundle of nerves. I couldn't hold it in anymore. Rodney wouldn't stop looking or touching me. Judd seemed like he was in heat the amount of times he tried to get under my skirt and Sam, oh Samuel was being a mean bull!
He told me I shouldn't be taking the garbage out because it was too heavy, and that using sharp knives were dangerous. I wasn't dumb, these men knew my little secret.
"Little Girl, you chomp on that food hard enough you're gonna lose a tooth." There Sam was again, being an absolute-
"Okay." Rodney spoke up, he always knew when my anger was about to get the best of me. It was crazy how I no longer feared men as much. I knew I had three cowboys to back me up. "Why doesn't Samuel clean up the dishes and meet us in the fireplace after. We can relax after this long day."
Glaring at Samuel one last time, I agreed with Rodney and followed him into the fireplace. As always I hopped onto the lap of whoever sat in the big leather chair. Judd having occupied it for the evening, I curled up onto his big body, smiling as his hands began rubbing anywhere he could reach.
Before long the four of us listened to the radio while the sun disappeared. I waited until my nerves settled some before I leaned back in Judd's arms.
"You already know." I whispered as I looked down at my flat stomach. "I can tell with the way you all are acting."
"Say it outloud." Judd took my chin in his hand, making me look at him. "I want to hear it."
The room spun but not in a nauseous way. Instead it felt happy, and joyful.
I felt the tears fall and I smiled wide. "Dr. Luke told me I am pregnant."
FIVE YEARS LATER:
"Mama!"
The little voice matched the little person running towards me at full speed. Kneeling down I caught him in my arms and spun him up and around. "My little Joey."
"Mama, my name is Joseph."
He was spitting images of all three of my husbands but with the attitude like that I always thought he may be Judd's. Either way it didn't matter, no one cared. We just loved him with all our might, the same we did with the two newborns.
"Are you ready for dinner, baby?" I asked the little man. "I mean, Joseph."
My four year old tucked his shirt in his jeans and straightened the collar. He liked to believe he was a grown man. "Yes Ma'am. Im's a starvin'!"
Hand in hand we walk back to the house, having just enjoyed an hour walk around the property. I had taken my camera with me and made sure to get some good photos to look back on.
Three tall cowboys met us on the porch. Judd had our little girl, Mae in his arms while Samuel held onto her twin sister Carly. As always, Joey leaped into any open arms he can find which happened to be his daddy, Rodney.
"You know, I don't even need to take a picture of this moment." I told them. "There is just no way I will forget this."
THE END
Thank you for taking the time to read my stories. I struggled with this one a bit at the end.. it definitely didn't feel like the first two books of this series. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear it in the comment section. I really enjoy writing short stories that are fast paced-fingers crossed you think I did a good job.
I'll be thinkin' hard at what I should write next... should I keep to Cowboys?
Werewolves? Cowboy Werewolves!? (;
