“In even the darkest times good rises against evil.”

Nellie looked out the fogged window; she silently wiped her window with her sleeve. She hated that she had to move to Styx, California. Styx wasn’t as nice as Pasadena. Nellie day dreamed about being with her friends, sitting in the front yard sharing secrets, and laughing at the girls who thought they were so cool.

She was shaken to reality by her barking dogs, Nyx and Jax, they were barking up a storm.

Nyx was a little black pug, who thought she was a Great Dane. She was out going and loud.

Jax was a great Dane, he was fearful, mostly quiet, and he liked sitting on peoples laps.

“Shhh” Nellie shushed them.” You’ll wake up Elle.” Nellie, then scratched them behind there ears.

Later that night Nellie was getting her stuff for school together, and putting sheets on her bed.

“Mom do I really have to go to school tomorrow?” Nellie complained.

“Yes, Nellie you are already enough behind them. If you want to even catch up you have to go to school tomorrow.” Nellie’s mom was quite annoyed at this point.

“Mom, we haven’t even completely unpacked yet.” Nellie tried to make her mom budge.

“No means No, Nellie.” Her mom stayed firm. “Go to bed.” Nellie

was about to protest, but, thought better of it.

'*************

Nellie woke up, confused on where she was. Then she remembered, she moved. Nellie got up and brushed out her choppy black hair. She walked towards her mirror she had set up in the corner of her newly claimed room. “This house isn’t a home” she thought. Nellie picked out her normal skinny jeans and hoodie, nothing out of the ordinary.

Nellie walked down stairs, she made her way through the unfamiliar house in to the kitchen. No one was there so Nellie figured her Mom had already taken Elle to daycare. Nellie looked around, to find that on the counter was a check for Nellie’s lunch, sitting next to her book bag.

Nellie checked her watch “Shoot! I’m gonna be late!” Nellie took of sprinting down the street. The school was directly down the street from her new house. At the end of the street stood Westdale High it seemed to be laughing at her. She picked up her pace, but the school kept moving farther and farther away. Then the bell rang, she was late!

Nellie awoke with a start. “It was just a dream.” Nellie thought. “It was nothing but a dream.”

It didn’t ease her much, at the fact she slept through all of geometry. So Nellie turned her attention back to Mrs. Giles.

“This afternoon at 1:05 sharp, we will have an assembly to honor our deceased friend Mr. Jones. I will expect you all to be their.” Mrs. Giles beady eyes looked over her glasses, she seamed to stare in to her soul. Mrs. Giles kept talking but, Nellie didn’t listen.
