The walk back was soothing. After being in the presence of someone with such a warm aura you felt better. If even just temporarily you think to yourself as the misty cloud of your breath escapes your mouth on a deep sigh. Sitting on the bench where your paths crossed, thoughts of the women that showed you kindness flit through your mind.
Placing your hand in your pocket you pull out the item you had been fumbling with the whole walk. Feeling the pang of loneliness as you glide your thumb and forefinger over the smooth metal. You inhale and let out a shaky breath.
It's been a year as of today that you had lost your life long friend and companion. The woman that brought you life. Losing a battle with uterine cancer that had rapidly spread to all her other organs. You tried to save her, but you weren't a match. With no other family to help spare her life she passed.
You cursed yourself daily for not being able to save her. Small things would always remind you of her. Especially this time of year, her favorite. The changing colors of the leaves, the warmth that fall brings the soul was always a reminder of what she was. A warm heart that was always wanting to help others.
Placing the ring your mother gave you back in the safety of your pocket, you notice you were smiling to yourself. That woman reminded you of her. You were taken aback when you came to sit at your mother's favorite bench. Her warm brown hair, her brown eyes when she finally opened them after a time of swaying to the music she was listening to. You sensed she was going through some kind of pain as well. "Did you bring her here for me mom? Still trying to set me up I see". You smile to yourself and think of how your mom would have played innocent.
"So much for bringing her to me, I couldn't even talk to her. But she reminded me of you. You have the same eyes". Sighing again you stand and start to make your way to your parked car.
