"Is this what you really want?"
I glanced on my feet, unable to meet eyes with him. We were both silent, amidst the sound of the aggressive waves crashing on the shoreline. The wind blew hard on my face, my wavy hair flying all over it.
"It's for the best, Miks." I said as I cleared my throat, though to be honest, I wasn't sure myself if I said the right thing.
Miko took my hand and gently held onto it. He was not looking at me either and was just staring at our feet, half buried in the sand.
"Well, if this is what will make you happy, then okay. I'll keep my share of the promise." He paused for awhile and took a deep breath. "I promise I'll never fall in love with you, Chanel Madrigal."
"Okay. Thank you." I tried to say with much satisfaction, though I knew that deep, down inside at the pit of my stomach, there was that familiar sinking feeling.
Miko lifted his head up, and looked at me straight in the eye. His lips slowly formed a half smile, and so did mine.
I got what I wanted, but at the same time, I lost something precious as well.
And it's all because of a stupid promise.
