It's been two years since the human population has lost sight of the world. It was a day like any other, or so everyone thought. At once, with no warning, everyone's eyesight just went black. Nobody knows why it happened or who or what caused it. Soon we all adjusted to the fact that we would never see again. Eventually, things went back to normal, or as normal as we could be without seeing. No one ever moved anything around anymore, it doesn't matter what it looked like anyway, there was nobody to impress.
Since that day, I always asked myself if things would go back to normal. I would always tell myself that something would be different today. I would wish that it would be different. But I was always wrong, I always got my hopes up. Until one day, I wasn't.
It happened when I was in the town square. When the clock struck two-thirty, a bright light blinded me. I could see, it was a miracle. With a wide grin on my face, I looked at the place that I hadn't seen for so long. Everything looked completely different from what I remember.
The people were all dressed in the same rags, including myself. The stone and metal building were replaced with white ones, however, the shapes remained the same. I looked around, thoughts flooded my head, Who could have done this? Can other people see? How can I see again? Who should I talk to? I looked around again, this time in the crowd of blind people. I didn't recognize anyone. At a faster pace than before, I squirmed through the crowd, and that's when I saw it.
As I got closer to the food market, I rounded a corner. A small bridge arched between two buildings was covered in large red spray paint, it read in capitalized words, "DON'T LET THEM KNOW YOU CAN SEE". Confused and looking for answers, I continued down the alley.
All along the walls read the same seven words. Something terrible must have happened when we all lost our sight. I slowed down and put my hands out in front of me, trying to blend in with the people who passed by. I didn't dare move my head to look around, I only moved my eyes. I saw a few cameras, but no one else showed signs of being able to see.
When I finally arrived at the market, two questions ran around in my brain, Who are "they", and what don't they want us to see?
