I raise the sword I was handed as the constables step towards us.

"Put your weapons down and put your hands up," the officer who arrested me said but neither I nor the pirate next to me puts our sword down.

"No, I believe you should put your weapons down and let us pass otherwise you may not walk out of here in one piece."

"We are not going to listen to a couple of criminals," the officer scoffs.

"Hey, I am not a criminal!" I shout even though I know they won't believe me. Seconds later everything goes crazy. The officers charge us and on instinct, I swing the sword through the air knocking their batons to the ground. I swing again and again leaving shallow cuts on the arms and chest of each of the officers. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the pirate doing the same. Several of the officers retreat to tend to their wounds as some are deeper and more severe than others. Finally, we manage to fight our way to the door.

The pirate grabs my arm as we run out the door of the rundown police station. As he pulls me down an alley he sheathes his sword. I continue to run with him even after he releases my arm. After several minutes we make it to the harbor. The smell of saltwater hits my nose and I can hear the lapping of the waves even above the loud chatter of the people walking around the harbor as if nothing is wrong. When we stop he surveys the area looking around and over people. When he finally sees what he is looking for he once again grabs my arm forcing me into motion.

"This way." He pulls me along with him towards the docks that are lined with boats. We climb aboard an abandoned boat and he runs about. I assume to get it to set sail. Suddenly there is a commotion in the harbor from where the pirate and I had just been moments before I look and see the officers are pushing their way through the crowd to look for us.

"We have to hurry!" I call to him as I see a man pointing in our direction. The ship begins to pull away from shore and by the time they reach the spot where the ship was docked we are too far away for them to be able to catch us. I stand by the edge of the boat and as I lean on the railing I listen to the waves as we go further out to sea. When the shore is no longer visible the pirate lets the anchor drop and walks over to me.

"So if you are not from around here then where are you from?" He leans on the rail of the ship a few feet in front of me. I take the pirate in as he looks out to sea his hair I once thought was black turns brown under the sunlight, most of his hair is pulled back into a small ponytail with some falling out.

"If I told you you would probably just think I am crazy, plus I don't know you, I don't know your name or anything about you. I also don't know if I could trust you to not get me thrown in some asylum." I turn my eyes back to the ocean watching just in case the officers did try to come after us.

"My name is Wesley Gnash, I have been the captain of a ship for two years, and I am a pirate though I don't kill. I only steal. As for trusting me, once we got out of the cells and got my weapons, I didn't have to give you a sword did I."

"No, you didn't have to." I glance at him out of the corner of my eye and see him studying me.

"When we got out of the building I could have just left you and ran off on my own, I could have decided to leave you at the harbor for the constables to find which would have given me more time to getaway. But I chose not to, so I think you can trust me."

"Do you really want to know?"

"Yes. I would like to know what I'm getting myself into."

"Okay, I'm trusting you. I am not actually sure what happened to me, but I was walking home from work and saw a strange light floating in the air. I know I should have just walked away from it but my curiosity got the better of me. So I went to take a closer look and suddenly there was a flash of light. The next thing I know is I am waking up here in what looks to be the past but if you say magic exists here it can't be the past because magic doesn't exist where I am from."
