You never expected to be standing outside of the Avengers compound, getting ready to face your brother and the lecture you'll get when you walk inside. You haven't seen Tony since you were sixteen and scouted by agents for a secret organisation. You've always done everything you can to tread your own path and avoid your over protective big brother at all costs, but here you are, out of options and begrudgingly seeking his help. As you walk up to the main entrance you feel your stomach churn and take a deep breath!

"Here goes nothing !" You whisper to yourself as you push the door open and hesitantly step inside. From now there's no going back, and you know this all too well!

Two days ago you received a surprise visit from a man you only recognised through stories you had been told by people you had worked along side. When the knock came and you opened the door to your apartment, you automatically knew who was standing facing you, looking at you with a strong glare. His eyepatch, long black coat and powerful stance gave away who he was straight away and you didn't hesitate to let him inside.

"Y/N Stark?" You're a difficult woman to track down! Your brother will be very glad to hear that I've found you. I'm going to cut straight to the chase because I'm a busy man and I don't have time to waste."

"Hang on a damn minute! I know exactly who you are. What are you doing here, and what do you mean my brother will be happy? There's a reason I'm making it difficult to find me you know!"

"Y/N with all due respect, whatever problem you have with your brother is no business of mine. I want you on my team, I know exactly what you can do, I've been watching you for a while. You're the best and on my team I need the best!"

You stand staring, gobsmacked at the nerve of this man that's standing in your hallway. How dare he walk into your apartment making demands? And on behalf of your brother of all people.

"Who do you think...."

"I'm Nick Fury, but you very well know that! Look, I'm just going to place this address down here. I'll give you forty eight hours to make a decision. I hope to see you there Y/N. Your skill set is second to none. Sleep on it!"

And just like that he walks out of the door, leaving you standing in the middle of the living room, staring at a piece of paper with an address on. How can your morning change so dramatically in a matter of five minutes? But you know in the back of your mind that you wanted somebody to stumble across you, to help to give you direction as to what to do next and that if you didn't want to be found, you wouldn't be.

No sooner have you stepped through the front door, you hear that all too familiar voice booming behind you.

"Well would you look at who it is! The triumphant returns. How are you kid?!"

You swing around to see Tony smirking at you. He's just as cocky and self assured and he's always been. You don't hate your brother, you never could... after all he is the only person that was there for you growing up. You lost your parents and Tony basically raised you alone, but because of this he has always tried to rule your life and been overprotective of everything that you do. He looks well, happy and you're glad of this. You've only ever wished well for your big brother, but you couldn't live under his smothering, strict rules.

"Tony, it's been a while. You look good. Older, but good all the same."

"Charming as ever I see. Come on we'll catch up later, but right now we're late to meet the rest of the team. I know it's difficult for you, but best behaviour. Do you understand me Y/N? I know exactly what you're like!"

"Do you want me to walk straight out of that door Tony? I am an adult. Not a five year old. I do not need a lecture on how to behave. Now do you understand me Tony?"

You give him your most sarcastic, cheesy grin and open the doors to what looks like a board room. Sitting around the table are on of the strangest groups of people you have ever seen, but you know exactly who they are. Tony swoops in behind you before you have a chance to say anything. You walk into the room to see Thor, Steve, Bucky, Nat, Peter, Sam, Bruce, Clint and Wander all turn to look at you and Tony.

"Morning guys, we have a new recruit starting today. This is..."

You cut him off before he has chance to finish his sentence.

"I think I can take it from here Tony. I'm Y/N, Tony's better looking and cleverer baby sister. My big brother here just couldn't wait for me to join the team! And so far I'm very, very impressed with what I see!"

You throw a wink at the group of men sat across from you at the table and you can feel Tony's gaze on you behind you.

"Y/N behave yourself. You've not even been here for five minutes!" Tony attempts to shut you down straight away, but he knows as well as you do that won't happen.

"I like her!" You see a red headed woman stand up and walk towards you. She seems confident and gives you a warm smile as she extends her and to shake yours. "I'm Nat. Your brother here has never mentioned you before, so please excuse the fact that we're all quite shocked at your arrival!"

"Just be careful you lot, she's a bit of a handful and she'll definitely keep you on your toes!" Tony stares down the rest of the men in the room, something which you have always hated him doing.

"We'll I wonder where she gets that from Tony!" Nat sidles up beside you and gives you a wink, instantly putting you at ease. "Come on Y/N, I'll show you to your room, you can freshen up and unpack."

"Thanks Nat!" You follow her out of the room to find yours. It's a fairly big room, welcoming and so much nicer than anywhere you've stayed in the last few years.

"I know that Tony will probably want to throw you a welcome party, he does it whenever one of us arrives and with you being his sister and all I'm sure he'll feel even more obliged. I'll swing by to come get you later Y/N. Try and relax, we're not as bad as we seem!" She gives you a big smile and a small wave as she walks out of the door.

You sit on the bed and look around the room, questioning whether you've made the right decision. You're here now, so you may as well try and make an effort, after all what's the worse that can happen?!
